Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Really disappointed by his in game management, countless times we've lost leads and very rarely when we've gone behind do we come back to get a result - his subs and tactical changes normally make us worse.
This is the suprise for me. I admit i wasnt keen on the appointment largely because of the football and toxicity he'd bring but i did think he would be relatively successful, getting top 4 and perhaps winning a trophy. I'm shocked at what an ordinary manager he seems to be now. There is no identity, no real gameplan other than nick a goal and hit on the break, subs are poor, tactics are poor and no players have really improved under him, a few like Sanchez have regressed. I'd say if he doesnt get 7 pts from Brighton, Chelsea and West Brom and/or get past Everton in the cup then he coudnt have any complaints if he was binned. I suspect a lack of any decent manager wanting to come in at this stage of the season will see him survive until May but when its clear something isnt working there is no point doubling down.

Yesterday was one of three games this season where we looked totally hopeless, Leicester and Everton the other two. Jose must take the blame with the players for that.
I think you’re being very kind. Wolves, Palace, were dreadful games - and then the way we failed to beat Newcastle, Fulham, Spam... one or two of these results and performances would be fine... but this has been all year. The top performances have been rare. We’re no way near consistent on any level.

You are right about Wolves and Palace. The multiple draws weren't all bad perfomances though. We should have won all of them.

But yes, Jose is not guaranteed to sit comfy in his chair.

I have to say I’m very deflated with Spurs but I have been for a long time. Still haven’t got over that CL final rubbish we conjured up and I don’t think I ever will if I’m going to be honest. What an opportunity that was to create something special and we fucking blew it. I thought Mourinho was going to come in and finally banish this Tottenham Curse, but I am seeing nothing to suggest we have changed mentality under him. Still the same soft underbelly that has plagued Spurs for years, even under Pochettino . Still the same countless individual mistakes he hasn’t rectified. We are in a final I have no hope of winning. It’s just miserable supporting Spurs because they let you down time and time again.

Brighton
Burnley
West Brom

We looked toally toothless in that run of 3 wins - barely created anything of note and further highlighted that beyond his all-out-defence-give-it-to-kane-and-son tactic he has nothing up his sleeve.

His answer to the press is always "individual errors" - two ways of fixing that:

- train the players to remove the mistakes (not sure he, or perhaps they, are capabale)
- sign replacements (I can't see the club spending on new GK, RBx2, CBx3, LB, DM.......just isn't going to happen)

I'm still just Mourinho in because I think a change right now would probably lead to a short-term fillip but no more - we need to get in someone with the vision and drive to overhaul the squad and provide more of a long-term solution. A project builder like Poch, if you will. I would say give Mourinho the season to see it out, identify the target and if it's still a load of shite by the summer then get that person in. Not sure who comes in right now to take the reins.

Truth is Jose just seems shit. Either he forgot that he's been a chequebook manager his whole life and really thought he could do the business with a team like Spurs or he wanted one last big pay out so trolled the lizard slaphead.

His gameplan with this squad he claimed to "love" (plus 9 signings) when attacking revolves around relying on individual brilliance and/or bypassing the midfield.
His gameplan defending involves either camping in our half conceding possession, territory, shots and crosses or an uncoordinated/tentative 1 or 2 at a time "press".

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he wants the team to push up and press.
In that case it's clear he lacks the skills to get this team to do it.

& if I hear one person say that this is the only way you can play with the players we have (internationals, international captains, cup winners, players who reached a CL final and were in Prem title races) then you are an even bigger victim to Jose's horseshit than Levy is. There are teams with worse players in this and other leagues who put together much better football.

The only way Jose can produce is if he has the absolute best players in the league.

This is NEVER going to work out. EVER. Here's why

1) Jose will never ever get anywhere near close to being able to fill the team with world class players. He won't get anywhere close to spending as much as rivals as he has at previous clubs
2) He cannot coach teams to play front foot attacking football. The game has changed, City and Pool are getting 100 points or thereabouts. Shithousing to a title isn't likely to happen anymore.
3) The league has strengthened. When there were 2 or 3 teams with potential to win it and well over a dozen plus broke clubs it was easier to win especially if a rival or 2 had a transitional season.

Times have changed. But here's the thing- even if they hadn't it wouldn't have made sense to hire a chequebook manager.
We backed him as much as Levy will and has ever backed anybody.

After the end of last season and during the start of this season we were livid. Even Levy fans were furious. We all calmed down after Jose got in a lot of players. Then the anti Levy people got mocked as the implication was "how does that suit your agenda now that Levy opened his wallet?"
So we did all acknowledge this summer as Jose being backed and he's failing. His best achievement has been lucky cup draws.

In a just world both Jose and Levy would walk. Realistically the best we can hope for is Jose goes and we get the next Poch. With Levy being Levy the best we can then hope for is that the next manager instead of having 2 hands tied behind his back like Poch, has just 1 hand tied behind his back (like Jose now).
If Jose had us during the season with no spending for 1.5 yrs we would have been in a relegation battle.

So in conclusion. I don't feel Levy objectively backed either Poch or Jose. But he backed Jose much more and as much as he ever will back anyone. He should have given that backing to someone who could outperform their resources cos he knew he wouldn't arm Jose with enough.

A Poch type with elite backing (he'd do a Klopp)>>> Jose with elite backing (he'd shithouse a cup and cause chaos after 2 seasons) >> A Poch type with Levy backing >>> Jose with Levy backing

I think he made mistakes with the team selection. I don’t know if Tanganga is fit but I would have preferred him as left back. Aurier only plays well if Sissoko plays. If Sissoko isn’t playing then I’m not sure Aurier should.
Rodon has made some mistakes. Genuinely think he should only be playing when Hart is in goal. As Hart constantly talks Rodon will be getting advice.
Son is on a poor period of form.

I am giving up any hope of the league now. Might as well use the games to work out a plan for the future and make sure we win three cups this year. Would like to see Vinicius start a premier league game on the weekend, maybe rest Son and Lloris. Something like:
Hart
Doherty - Toby - Rodon - Davies
Hojberg -Winks - Ndombele
Bale - Vinicius - Lamela

I simply don't get the logic of deriding the CL final, the biggest final this Club has ever played in its entire history. A really shit game of football conducive to most games of this magnitude and any game played a month after a season had ended and in 90-degree heat. Going into the game we were massive underdogs, playing against the 2nd best team in the World having lost just one league game all season, finishing 2nd in the league by one point to the best team in the world and the only team who beat them that season. A team that had finished 26 points above us. We were the better of the two poor performances that day, the MOTM was their goalkeeper (although I thought the saves he made were routine).

It's not about a "soft underbelly", I'd have back in a heartbeat the spirit we showed that took us all the way to the final. We got there because of our spirit, it's what we fell back on as our football was on the decline on account of our high-press was no longer being sustained (for a variety of reasons both in and out of our control) and a central midfield that was crocked.

We are a TODAY a terribly coached team.

@ people who watch/ Did watch pro wrestling:

which of the following wrestlers will have had the better year:

A) The wrestler who spent 11 months of the year plodding around in the mid card, never looking in contention for any of the major belts, but wins the Intercontinental title on a raw house show for a one month reign. He’s not really over with the fans in terms of gimmick, mic skills or move set.

or B) a tremendously over wrestler who excites fans with his ability to work matches every week, wins the Royal rumble but can’t convert his wrestlemania title shot. Steals the show with a spectacular performance at Money in the bank, but doesn’t get the briefcase.

A or B?

I have avoided all football media since final whistle last night. But I did notice a comment somewhere on here that José threw the players under the bus? Can anyone confirm and paraphrase? I can't stomach watching the bullshit falling out of his mouth post match anymore.
