Ex-Spurs Player Kieran Trippier

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I like Trips and he did well last night. Rather him than Aurier any day of the week.

But RB looks a weak link overall and we should def be looking to upgrade.

Actually, I said stats showing assists and goals don't equate to being more attacking than another full back.

I thought Trippier was crap defensively yesterday. Holebas and Richarlison quite regularly sent him for a hot dog. And practically all their attacks were down his side.

I'm entitled to my opinion of his lacklustre performance just like you are.

Ive not once said you arent entitled to an opinion, Ive said that you have belittle way more telling stats than the one you just used

Agree with this. He did well but also got skinned a few times and let players get beyond him to cross too easily.

He’s good but is probably our weakest link and definitely upgradable.

Not being funny, but if I say "every attack was because Dembele kept losing posession in the middle, and Dier was sloppy", would it hold some weight? I think it would.

99% of the forum think he had a really good game, as does the media.

I think your post is unlike you, as it smacks of the "Lamela is shit" tribe, who can never say well played, even when deserved.
I've backed up why I think he was and is shit though. No unsupported tripe that Lamela and Sissoko get, my thoughts and reasons are detailed, yet only one person has countered my points with their differing opinion.

From what I see people say he played well because he played an 8yrd ball to an unmarked player who scored. Someone else has offered up he 2 nutmegs, and a goalkeeping howler was because of his cross. Everyone else appears to have enjoyed watching him cross the ball to no one and being almost non-existent in defence. So help me out, what the fuck did he do that counters what I have said he did poorly. Surely that's how it works when challenged. If you and others enjoyed his crossing to no-one then great at least I have something to go on other than my assumptions. But as yet all that's been offered is "thought he was great". I'm asking why? What the hell did everyone see that I didn't?

Nothing and I mean nothing will ever change my mind on this clogger.

As a self proclaimed happy clapper and a defender of almost all of our players when they are dug out, I feel I can stand tall on this one, unrepentant in that I like to think I'm not a melt or a scapegoater.

Questions to be asked?
Where did Watfords attack stem from?
How many times did they attack this space?
How many 1v1's did Tripps lose?
How many headers did he win/lose?
Of the 101 crosses he flung in last night how many found a Spurs player?
Ergo, how many times did he concede possession?
How many chances did he really create?
Of the chances he did actually create, how many did Watford in return create down our right flank? Was the ratio in our favour or Watfords?

Why does one of the meanest defences in the league concede so many changes last night, all down the our right flank? *A caveat to this answer to cut Tripps some slack is that our forwards and midfield didn't press well last night and this was also a contributory factor. Son doesn't press well and Kane since his comeback from injury isn't pressing at all, this is an issue and allows oppo to play the ball without pressure.

I took it to the Trippier thread.

Unless someone can post a montage of "every attack" being Trippiers fault, then Im not even going to argue against it. Im calling total bullshit, and you need to back your claims with some video evidence.

Video Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford Highlights & Full Match

The video evidence doesnt support your claims....their first attack where on the right side, so what, someone passed the ball past him and Sanchez was covering. And?

Their second attack was an aimless cross from deep.

Their third attack was a shit pass from Dier in the middle

Fourth attack both Eriksen and Sanchez were mugged off by a ball right in between them, then Lloris saved
(right after Trippier was still in pain from that challenge)

Their 5th attack he was nowhere, caught out way up the pitch

Sixth attack Dele fucking around in the middle and lost possession while we were pressing

7th he was skinned by Capoue, out wide

8th attack he played him offside and it was Sanchez who risked it by not holding the line

So basically, just what I witnessed last night, a solid game against a team that didnt come to lie down, and directly involved in both our goals.

That took ages, but worth it to prove the lies.
The agenda is fucking strong in this one

Fine. But what problems are you referring to exactly? The spilled keeper cross was a keeper error, nothing to do with a fantastic too hot to handle cross, the assist for Kane was a rolled 8yrd pass to a player standing still unmarked in the box. So other than these two moments what problems and chances?

Barring in mind that they created more chances than us all from his area of the pitch.
Both goals came as a result of his crosses, shit keeper or not. I know you don’t rate him, but last night’s game wasn’t the one to make your case. I’m not a fan of his, but I’m not so prejudiced that I can’t admit when he has a good game. By contrast how many chances did Davies create on the other side?

Oh at least 35. He’s my favourite player so you won’t get any change out of me on that one.

#agenda

Trippier and Davies have been slated for not being aggressive enough up front and not attacking as much as Rose and Walker.

Davies proven to create and score more than Rose, and Trippier creates two goals, and constantly attacks causing problems...

"Why is he crossing the ball all the time, why is he up the pitch when they attack, how dare the keeper spill his cross and we score..........but shhhhhhhh dont mention the second assist"

Some people just like to see someone running quickly with the ball. I know this because I’m one of them. That doesn’t make me a football analyst though. I leave that to Crazy Sandra.

Don't get what Davies performance has to do with how Trips played. I've made my case, laid it out bare, as I always do. I've already acknowledge his parts, 1) His assist which was an 8yrd pass to an unmarked Kane good but really is this what the whooping is about? 2) The first goal is nothing other than a spectacular goalkeeping howler, nothing to do with the ball played in, it's a howler.

Without the ball played in he wouldn’t have made the howler. That’s like denigrating a striker for scoring when a goalkeeper makes an obvious mistake - which nobody does.

It counts when defending Dele though.....sounds like you would have preferred him to try and hit the top corner with a rocket. Or maybe rabona it to Kane. How dare he do the right the thing and set up a goal.

The first goal is nothing other than a spectacular goalkeeping howler, nothing to do with the ball played in, it's a howler.

If the ball wasnt played in, we wouldnt have scored.
Incredible outlook you have there...you all want him to beat his man more, but you dont want him to cross it.

Then you all moan that Davies checks back, yet seemingly want Trippier to check back instead of putting the ball into the box.

Getting nonsensical now, watch the highlights and have a breather.

Mate Watford literally ripped us a new arsehole down their left flank. Richarlison and Hughes linking really well.

I did cut Trips some slack, not laying everything at his door, a lot to do with us not pressing high up the pitch like we normally do, which creates stress on Dembele and Dier as there is no pressure on the ball, this created problems for us last night too. To their tactic all night was to target Tripps whether he was present or left stranded up the pitch (not tracking back).

The video evidence proves thats not the case, and you seem to be the only person who saw the game that way

Agendas become blatant when you start with the "Trippier is shit thats why Dembele and Dier were shit" stuff

If it was a ball played at pace impossible for the keeper to handle, or made him punch it because he couldn't catch it absolutely credit should be given. But it was a goalkeeper howler, he went to catch it with both hands in his midriff it should have been bread and butter for a Sunday league goalkeeper. The cross was nothing, and inaccurate and should have been dealt with. Surely anyone can see this.

No Dembele and Dier were shit because they were shit, they were put under pressure because we didn't press from the front like we normally do. If you play a high-line you HAVE to put pressure on the ball, we didn't do that, specifically Kane and Son as biggest culprits.

But is acknowledged in every write-up that I've seen that the attacks were mostly in the area behind him, they reflect that Watford were troubling us and that was coming largely through Richarlison who was playing out on the left.

The game is fluid. When crossing the ball you’re not necessarily aiming for a particular player, it’s up to other players to get on the end of crosses in the time it takes for the cross to come in. The game doesn’t freeze when the cross is struck. He put the ball into a dangerous area as he did all night - it’s a daft thing to criticise him for.

it's difficult comparing Walker and Tripper, we played a different way in seasons gone past – more pace and on the break but now we seem to be gentle in our build-up. We now expect our wing backs to be able to take the field on and get a killer cross in... Our wings backs should be giving us width and options, freeing CE to spray the ball about not everything channelled through them.

Tripps seems a decent lad, gets stuck in, trains hard and doesn't spout in social media so hope he remains but feel we could do better. Is Aurier going to be the long-term replacement?

And this is where we fundamentally disagree. I hate seeing the ball pumped aimlessly into the box, it's low percentage, easy to defend against, it concedes possession, it allows the oppo to counter (especially in the space of the RB that is now not athletic enough to get back into position). And before anyone says "what no crosses ever", no, of course not, It's good to put "some" crosses in, but it's all he does, there is nothing else, no surprise, no mixing it up, getting behind the oppo, getting to the byeline and cutting it back, no interplay with midfield. It's just lump it in, hit and hope, totally predicable and It's shite.
