Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Thought a short video of Etete's last assist might illustrate one of his strengths - great first touch from a long punt by the goalie, followed by a dribble and excellent pass to allow his co-striker to score.

and his MotM for the assist and several other key passes.

So that's 3 goals and 3 assists in 8 starts and 3 off the bench - totalling 773 minutes or a goal involvement (goal or assist) every 128 minutes at League 1 Cheltenham Town.

Not bad given his injury from which he's just returned.

The main Cheltenham Town reporter, Jon Palmer, answering questions about Etete after links to Pompey:

From watching Etete now for many occasions in the red and white of Cheltenham, how would you summarise his game for people who don't know too much about him?

JP:
"He is a tall, mobile and athletic centre forward, who thrives on playing up front with a strike partner. He made a hugely positive impact during his half-season loan at Cheltenham Town and the only disappointment is that he missed several games with two separate niggling injuries.

"When he played, he helped bring out the best in Alfie May, laying on some of the Robins' leading scorer's goals and also chipping in with three himself. He became popular with supporters, many of whom were hoping he could return next season, but he seemed destined for bigger and better things."

What was his standout moment from last season for Cheltenham?

JP:
"Alfie May took all the headlines in Cheltenham's 5-5 draw at Wycombe Wanderers in February, for scoring four times, but Etete scored a fine goal himself to make it 3-3 and he played a major part in May's feat, with some superb forward play, occupying defenders with his strength and constant threat in behind using his speed. He had also put in an impressive display in the 2-1 home win over Sunderland earlier that month."

What was his weakest moment/spell in a Cheltenham shirt?

JP:
"The only real weakness in his game is heading. For his height he doesn't win enough. He is very good at using his body to shield the ball and bring others into play, but he perhaps needs to work on his aerial ability and bravery, but on the floor he is very dangerous and his final goal for Cheltenham was a header in a draw against Gillingham on Good Friday, suggesting he was improving this department under Michael Duff's coaching.

"The injuries also hampered him slightly and restricted his overall appearances to 10 starts and another three from the bench."

How do you assess the so-called step-up from Cheltenham to play-off chasing Pompey next term for Etete? Do you think he could deal with higher expectations and why?

JP:
"He definitely looked capable of making an impact in the Championship or in a promotion-chasing League One side, based on his performances for Cheltenham.

"He is a positive and likeable character too, with no arrogance about him despite coming on loan from a club of Tottenham's size - this will stand him in good stead throughout his career if he remains as grounded, perhaps as a result of his time with Notts County."

Pompey want to try and sign George Hirst again for next season but are struggling currently. What are the similarities and differences in your view between Hirst and Etete?

JP:
"I have not seen a huge amount of Hirst, but Etete is a bit taller and I would back him to win in a foot race. His finishing was also of a high standard, so he brings physical attributes and goal threat, as a bit of an all-rounder."

Danny Cowley and Michael Duff are two managers with very different styles of football. How will Etete need to adapt from a Duff style to Cowley's more attacking-based football and do you think Pompey's system would suit him a lot more than what he played when at Cheltenham?

JP:
"The main thing is to play him up front with another striker, rather than on his own. He will be able to fit into most formations involving more than a lone frontman.

"Cheltenham did plenty of attacking last season and only scored two fewer goals than Pompey, so he may not notice a huge amount of change, other than a slightly more solid backline if he was to make the move to Fratton Park."

Could Pompey be the right next step in his career in your view or do you think he should be aiming a lot higher- a Championship club maybe?

JP:
"There is reported Championship interest, but if Pompey did sign him I would expect him to be challenging for promotion to the second tier anyway, so it could be a positive move for him. He needs to continue building his game time and learn from the niggles he had at Cheltenham, strengthening certain areas and learning about his body and he could be a major asset for Cowley's side should he opt for the south coast."

If he were to move to Pompey and do well, do you reckon there could be scope to make it a permanent deal or could Spurs view Etete as a long-term heir for someone like Harry Kane? And have Cheltenham tried to make his move permanent at all or get him on another loan deal?

JP:
"Cheltenham are not expecting to be able to bring him back for another loan spell, as much as they would like to. They have shaken him by the hand and wished him all the best with his next challenge.

"If he continues to impress as he has at Northampton and Cheltenham, maybe one day he could force his way into Spurs' first-team thoughts, but that is a huge leap in standard and he definitely needs further experience to help him bridge the gap. One with a bright future ahead of him though, without any doubt."

Reminds me of Adebayor. If we hang on to Kane and let him go on a Bosman in 3 years, Etete should be ready for the first team by then. Not to mention Scarlett and Parrott.

Sometimes the best thing is to do nothing and let problems take care of themselves.

A Championship loan sounds nice. If he is is able to fight it out with rough defenders in the Championship for a season he'll do well as a backup in the PL later.
I think this is underrated in the lower divisions. He's already up against defenders for whom relegation is an absolutely disaster.

These aren't PL guys on £3m a year. Relegation? Pfft. Just get the agent to move me to another PL team. What's the problem?

In the division he's in these guys will have mortgages ex-wives school fees etc that a drop in wages will greatly affect.

What's the situation with Kion Etete now and have Spurs given him the all-clear yet?

Still waiting. We don't know if he'll be available and it's out of our hands at the minute. He is Tottenham's player and they'll decide when he can return or not return. At the minute, I don't know, which is frustrating. Kion has been excellent since he came in and he and Alfie have struck up a relationship.

So you have had Kion Etete scanned, Spurs have had him scanned and you are now waiting for the green light for his return to action?

Yes, their radiologist's report is slightly different to what ours is so they want to go and have a look at him, so he's been back there. They've decided he needs an injection, but it's when that injection happens and that will dictate when he can play because there are protocols to jump through. I genuinely am in the dark over it, but we'll probably find out more on Thursday afternoon. He's a good player and he's been excellent for us. We've been good for him as well. He's definitely a really good foil for Alfie because he holds the ball up, he can run in behind and he can threaten a goal. I'd imagine he's been involved in three or four of Alfie's goals at least, with Kion putting them on a plate for him.
