bonaspur23 gave you the evidence for why a top 6 team does NOT have the right to have won a trophy (as if any team does).

The evidence was there in his detailed post and you just ignored it to assert the opposite.

How are we supposed to have a conversation about this if facts and evidence don’t mean anything?

Like an evil Roman Emperor who won't feed people properly but will chuck some lions and gladiators in the colliseum for a bit to distract people away from tearing his head off.

Facts and evidence LMAO. Almost every word in that post was subjective. You just fucking love it because you've got ENIC tattooed on you somewhere.

Every single other club in the top 6 (even the one with barely more revenue than us) have won far more trophies than us. Clubs below us in revenue have won double the amount. To not win anything in 20 years is fucking ludicrous.

The fans are entitled to more bang for their buck.

Subjective? Do you understand that words have meanings? What on earth was subjective about his post?

He showed that teams outside the top 3-5 in any given league win almost no trophies and precisely no big trophies ie success in the big 5 leagues has been concentrated among a small handful of clubs.

That’s factual and therefore objective. To counter that you need facts and evidence not blithe assertions. You’re university educated - you can do better than this.

To be fair, I think we’ve underperformed when it comes to trophies. We really should have at least 1. But none of those 2nd tier teams that have won a cup or two have a CL run as deep as us. Most not even close. And that’s clearly a much harder competition.

Unfortunately, we used all our luck in that run and not in a league cup.

To think we should expect 3-4 trophies is not realistic as we aren’t at Chelsea, City, United and Liverpools level as a club.

And no point in arguing with that poster. I’ve never seen him change his mind or acknowledge someone else’s point.

We do have a trophy in that time. We won the league cup in 2008.

But otherwise I don’t know if that’s how these things work. I think we should have been expected to win the conference league because we should have been favourites for every game in that competition.

But aside from that, there’s no domestic or European trophy which we could claim to expect to win ever. To give a clear example, losing against Man City or Liverpool in a final is exactly what you would expect to happen. There’s no realistic scenario or chairman which could have done differently (aside from a sports washer).

The chances of a team outside the big 4 winning is always so small that it is never in our favour. And that’s true over a 20 year period too. One trophy won is the kind of return you mathematically expect from a club our size, given the competition.

Put us in an easier country and I’d expect more, of course. Like Germany or Italy or France. And you’d think we’d have done that.

EVERYONE around us has won something more than once. This idea that because we're slightly lower in terms of revenue (higher lately!) we can't have even expected a singular bit of silverware in two decades is so beyond nonsense that it isn't worth dealing with. Of course no club wins a trophy by proxy but with the wealth of these owners & the underlying potential of the club, we SHOULD OBJECTIVELY have won a trophy in this timeframe. Even most fucking ENIC in people admit this so how are you so pigheaded and stubborn that you can't?

Other leagues aren't the Premier League. Other leagues don't have a team in the top 10 for revenue who are the 6th largest. We have more than enough resources to have done more on the trophy front and everyone and their fucking dog knows this. Outside the top 6 in Italy, Spain, Germany etc teams can barely spend 10 million on a player. We can construct the bestest stadium in the world but can't win a pissing FA cup? Fucking hell, acting like we're Schalke or Betis..

My god, if the fans have no right to attractive football or titles with our revenue, then chuck the whole sport in the bin. The league is competitive but for years we've had numerous mega clubs who are in dire staits and were being run like shit. The biggest in the country have huge revenue but were ran by scam artists and had David Moyes & Ole running the show. Liverpool were close to administration, got taken over, turned around within 5 years and won everything there is to win. Woolwich's fans have wanted their owners out for a decade & been in a state of chaos yet won numerous cups.

Fucking hell, watch Newcastle win a trophy within a couple of years with similar spending & a lower wage bill than us .. you lot will still write it off because they're an oil club even though their money is worth the same as ours. We're just fundamentally not aclub ran to secure silverware, we're a moneymaking operation where attractive football & trophies are secondary concerns to building the 'brand' and developing infastructure. Some of us are fucking sick of it and would like to see the identity of the club go back to something resembling a football club.

Let’s correct one thing first… we have won a trophy under ENIC. Maybe you’re too young to remember but that’s a factual correction.

You sound quite angry/emotional here but hopefully you can engage reasonably.

To win an FA cup, at least 4 richer and more successful clubs than us need to not win it. That’s less likely than it would be in most other leagues. Our standing vis a vis other countries only matters for European competition because to win domestic cups we have to compete against a lot of other wealthy teams.

Most of the rest of your post seems to be emotional (subjective) so I don’t really know how to engage.

United and Woolwich were a bit of a joke at the time and Everton didn't emerge as title contenders until the mid to late eighties.

These clubs were the 'big five' in those days.

Liverpool, at the time were dominant, but there wasn't that much between the other four clubs.

This is how it remained until the inception of the Premier League in 1992 / 93.

Ipswich Town, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest were also big players in the late 70s/early 80s but I guess the difference between them and the clubs you mentioned is that their success began and ended with the specific managers they had (Bobby Robson, Ron Saunders and Brian Clough) and once those managers were out of the picture there was no pedigree or heritage to keep them at the top.

Yeah thanks for that patronising Sherlock. Considering a team who were promoted in the last decade managed to win one and Woolwich did it four fucking times with around the same revenue (whilst beating City/Chelsea in these games) I'm gonna go ahead and say us winning it once should probably have happened.

Especially when both those clubs will probably also boast a league title on top of that at the end of this season, whilst we've still got apologists on their knees crawling about trying to justify the empty cabinet because we're too poor.
