More marginal, but I think yes. But to get him game time I think it has to be L1 - Football Chap Football Chap might have a view - which is possibly a status/tier he was trying to avoid by going to SPL
Yeah generally didn’t want him going back up there from the off but after last season didn’t expect him to be getting less minutes.

Last season he joined Aberdeen 'not fully fit' after an injury previous season took him out for many months, but in the last 8 weeks or so of last season he seemed to become a CB fixture even playing in the Scottish Cup final (a rare cup win for Aberdeen so a major match for Aberdeen where they would not have risked playing an out of form player).

Really do not understand why he's struggling for form and minutes this season

No shame going to League One or even League Two at his age. The former is more competitive than the SPL, the latter can't be far behind.

SPL is an odd league - in good years Celtic might be a bottom end PL club, and Rangers maybe a top end Championsip club (changing round every 10 years or so) with other middling SPL clubs being bottom end Championship or League one clubs.

But at bottom of SPL, the clubs are more League 2 and may even be more National League (attendances in the best National League sides might average say 5,000 whereas bottom end SPL sides are a fraction of that hence not having wages to pay better players ).

Would have preferred a straight sale or loan with obligation for £10m - £15m as otherwise he'll be back in summer and we need to devote more time to moving him on again.

I'm with you, loan with option ain't great. By the time his Fiorentina loan expires, he'll still have 2 full seasons left to run on his contract.

Let's hope that first, they pick up most - if not all - of his salary for the next 6 months. And that he does well enough there for them (or another team) to sign him on a permanent asap.

Assuming he doesn't get injured and does at least OK there, I think we need to be taking almost any offer we can get for him just to get him off our books.

We got him for next to nothing so even something shite like £5m would be better than him twatting around on loan for another year where he might get yet another injury and become completely unsellable.
