He's just another player like Werner who is frustrating to watch because you feel if you are a good amateur footballer you could finish his chances just as well if not better.

This squad is drastically undergunned for next season. We need some good players now we have enough potential.

what have you seen from tel, outside of speed, that tells you hes going to be a better footballer than someone like moore?

ive seen nothing, in fact the opposite, ive seen someone who isnt a natural footballer at all. he doesnt dribble elegantly and clean with the ball like a winger should. his passing and decision making isnt great...theres no signs of him being a good footballer. 19 is young but if they are at this level youd expect to see something. i can at least see with moore that hes far cleaner, and in tune with the ball. his problem for now is that hes a young boy and physically he just cant compete... that might change in a couple years when he gets stronger.

Let's look at it in the most controversial way.

People have generally been scathing of the fact that we paid near £50m for home-grown Brennan Johnson.
We have an option to pay £50m for not-home-grown Mathys Tel.

As much criticism Johnson gets, is Tel actually a patch on Johnson?

I'd argue that if Tel was Ajayi, and had the same games/performances, people would say he's not as good as Townsend was and that he's destined for a Championship loan.

This would be fine if he was a youth product or was already here. He’s on loan. He may well develop as you say or may not. We don’t know at all.

You definitely don’t go ‘evidently nowhere near good enough but is potential’ and then throw 50m or whatever at him now.
