Ex-Spurs Player Matt Doherty

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So only Porto & Royal at RWB. Royal preferred to Doherty and no one in this Country wanted him and so we decided the saving in wages is greater than any transfer value. I find it hard to believe that although he was not the greatest, he did contribute.

You're sad to see him go but you also despised him? Ok

He's not that shit that we write off 15m or whatever he was worth... Odd one
Once he knew Porro was in and Atleti wanted him I guess he pushed for it.

He's been here 2.5 out of a 4 year deal so we're not writing off 15m.

We're saving about 5m in wages for the remainder of his contract and I doubt he would have sold for more than that in the summer after half a season riding our bench.

If we can't sell him, can't loan him and had no space in squad for an overseas trained player ..... releasing him (or another overseas trained player) probably the only way forward.

It wasn't until he hired Conte that he put in what can be described as a decent performance, 1.5yrs after we signed him!! And they numbered no more than approx 5 games!! This is the very definition of shit. We've been trying to offload him, not a single sniff. He's 31yrs old, his contract is not up until Aug 2024, and he's almost worthless (through amortisation we've written off approx £8,125,000 so he stands us in at just under £5m, which means we couldn't even get Atleti to pay that for him!!!). This is good by the club, be ruthless and don't let dross like him be a millstone around our necks, because not getting rid means we won't bring in any new.

He's a player who is incredibly niche and even then not actually that good at said niche. Not really that bothered the club cancelled his contract, and utterly baffled Atletico Madrid want him. Do they think he's another Trippier? Because he really isn't.

That little run of 3 or 4 games where we were smashing sides & everything he touched turned to gold was fun, though .. so I'll try to remember that instead of the rest of his Spurs career, which was incredibly meh.

He was no longer worth that much......

Guy's 31 and had 18 months left on his deal > £3.4m per year wages = £5.1m.

The termination was "mutually agreed", so presumably Atletico take over a new wage agreement with him and he's then a free agent whenever they do let him go.

We could have kept him and dragged things out in hope of a sale next summer; the risk being paying all of that 5m only to bag a likely maximum 5m fee anyway.

The financial impact here is negligible.

Another Levy fuck up.

Sheffield United would have paid 12m

joke

A team who in the 2 years since their relegation has spent £4.2m in total? Yeh.... Well believable. LOL 🤡

It may well have been a fuck up that led to his release; but the financial impact was minimal.

It's fucking hilarious.... A few days ago, people were actually applauding Arse for the costly ejection of PEA, Ozil and the likes of Lacazette also leaving on a free. Yet we let go of a 31yr old Matt Doherty (!!!) who's been shit since injury (sorry, Matt!) in order to allow us to juggle our squad and people are up in arms??????

"Joke" in deed.
