Shame , didn’t he pull a hamstring this time last year ? So that’s him out untill the new year again. Ben Davies is our saviour
To be fair. Ben Davies was excellent last night. It could be that the VDV injury brings BD back in @ LCB and then Ange has to adapt and let Davies sit deep while the others push up to compensate for the lack of speed. It probably is no more insane than that run back in a panic tactic that is dubious at best.

I like Davies. Don’t know why he gets so much flack. Anyways, sorry to high jack a VDV thread a bit.

Judging by his reaction he knows he's going to be out for some considerable time which is obviously not good. We have no other defender that can do what he does for us.

Let's friggin pray it's nothing serious and he only misses Villa, but I fear it'll be 4 to 6 weeks. Kinda thankful there's one of them uber annoying Nations League breaks coming up.

Sadly, I also think the next one will always be just around the corner with VdV. It's just his body and the added stress our wtf way of defending puts on it.

Just gotta hope the kid does a Varane, who learned how to transform his game after a big injury as a young pro and still turned into an elite defender.

This is not good for Micky. We're over relying on his speed and he gets injured as a consequence.
His superior speed should only be something we have to rely on in special situations but we play in a way that is too reckless. Not yesterday but in general.

He's young and shouldn't get injured so often. He has to be looked after so that he doesn't break before his peak.

What are you proposing, we only let him sprint 3 times a game? He’s got iffy hamstrings, he had hamstring issues at his last club too.

His speed is his biggest asset, you can’t just tell him not to use it

I don't even think in general - He has barely had to use his pace to sprint back on counters this season if memory serves correctly

And Varane averaged 20 games a season for Madrid. Finished at 30

Not playing with such a high line is probably the most obvious solution. Micky needs to wisen up too. He's only 23.
Not sure we should change our system just to accommodate one players dodgy hamstrings.

He had hamstring issues whilst playing in Germany.

He was playing LB last night, that’s a position where you will always be asked to get up and down the pitch. Recovery runs are part of the game.

Was at Real for 10 seasons...8 of those he played more than 30 games (across all comps)...had 5 seasons with circa 45 games. Not too shabby considering he also had to compete with Sergio Ramos & Pepe. Also has 90+ caps for France. Won numerous titles for club and country, and most strikers who faced him during that time said he was one of the best defenders ever.

Micky would bite your hand off for a career like that. But yeah hopefully he manages his body better than Varane did and reaches an even higher level than the Frenchman.

Honest question - did you notice how high City’s line was last night? All their defenders had to make recovery runs too. Seems to have worked quite well for them over the past 5 years or so
Honest answer. Did you notice Manchester cities 2 billion pound spend over the last few years? This should be like a new Gowins law thing, when anyone uses Manchester city to illustrate a point they immediately invalidate said point. OTAMENDI,DIAS, MENDY, WALKER, STONES, CANCELO, AKE, AKANJI, GRAVIDOL, LAPORTE, LEWIS, BRAITHWAITE, GOMEZ... This shouldn't with all due respect take Holmes and Watson. But hey if you think this is an equitable assessment of why their highline works as opposed to us, when we have wielded the titans Emerson Royal and Eric Dier in a similar period then we fundamentally see football differently. It's not the same damn thing.😂

Our squad is thin. You can see this by the constant shuffling of Udogie (back from a really big injury this summer) in and out of the side. Too much hipster football talk has convinced people this stuff is immutable, HIGHLINE HIGHLINE!! Of course Klopp and Pep at better resourced way more serious clubs can be successful with the highline. We on the other hand are flogging young players still learning with no real rotation options.

The predictability of these injuries is utterly disheartening. Our own fans look at a team rolling Archie Gray out at right back and start making comparisons with cities tactical setup I swear we are culpable, Levy can empty his, bladder and we'll swear its rain.
