I mean, also, could you not just play Romero or Dragusin out of position or Udogie or a youth player or a central defensive midfielder.
I get that VdV is better than all of those but to have Dragusin replace our best centre back because we willingly put our best centre back at left back midweek when he was feeling it is stupidity.
He did his hammy this time last year covering for Romero. I'm not saying he wouldn't pull his hammy anyway, but if he does it in a league game at centre back after a midweek rest with 11 men on the pitch you can take it better.

Can't help but think our high line and dependence on his pace is hindering his all-round development (injuries and all).

Yesterday VDV only played because Udogie is coming back from injury and needed some rest AND Spence was injured.
So it all was just matter of unfortunate circumstances.
