Siggy replaced him.Was gutted when he left, will always be a legend in my eyes. Also, remember we basically replaced him with Dempsey. Dempsey had a decent season in his own right but we sorely missed Rafa's creativity. I have no doubt we would have been better off keeping him for at least another season.
As mentioned in the article it wasn't at all one sided why he left but clearly AVB wasn't a fan of his and he saw the writing on the wall amongst personal issues.
From his last game:
...knocking his old dear about?Look up fucking legend in the dictionary and there's a picture of van der vaart lol
Now you're just being a cunt by comparing him to Holtby. Rafa was streaky, often injured, and never 90-min fit, but he was class for us.I think it's easy to rose tint Rafa's time at Spurs.
He was a extremely popular player (see Lewis Holtby or Sandro), with pedigree who signed for the club unexpectedly.
On form he was unplayable, but a luxury player in the purest sense.
Unable to put in more than a 50 min shift, a stubbornness to only play in his prefered "No 10" position and a reluctance to commit to any defensive responsibilities. You can see why AVB considered him unsuitable.
That said, I will always love him for the passion he showed for the shirt and his performances against the cunts down the road.
The affair was over too early, but "It's better to burn out, than to fade away"
That's a very early and harsh play of the "cunt card".Now you're just being a cunt by comparing him to Holtby. Rafa was streaky, often injured, and never 90-min fit, but he was class for us.
AVB maybe wasn't wrong for not pandering to him and telling him that he was an automatic starter, but he definitely could have handled it better, and without pushing him towards the exit.

24 goals in 63 games ... can we have more luxury players like this please?!?I think it's easy to rose tint Rafa's time at Spurs.
