Management New Manager?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What has patience in regards to transfers ever gotten us..?

Last minute failed signings, last minute championship level loans, last minute panic buys....and seven managers in ten years....

I thinks it fair that we are demanding a response before the pre season and world cup.

Most people still trust Levy...STILL.

Theres your patience.
A manager is not a transfer and the transfer window doesn't open until 1st July, after the WC is over. That gives us six weeks to get a manager in place and start the process of looking for players before even being able to confirm their signings and, for most of that period, while players are away at the WC. Pre-season doesn't start until July, the first week or two of which will only see a partial squad anyway.Who is talking about last minute panics?

Again, what's the rush to have a manager in place by tomorrow? It's a big decision. I would hope the club fully interviews and assesses all possible candidates before making a final choice. If that takes a couple more weeks, so be it.

Its not a rush mate....its a 20 year long list of fails, bar Redknapp, yet that too ultimately ended in a catastrophe.

Levy should have been on the blower to his target a month before he sacked AVB, then got in TS as interim with the new guy already tied up.

If he's only just started flicking through his list of candidates, well words fucking fail me.

For me it has to be an all out push for FDB. I can't believe that people aren't making more out of what he has said in the media over the last month.

Essentially you have a title winning manager (Eredivisie blah blah) who has publicly stated he has no interest in joining a prebuilt champion but wants to take a sleeping giant and do something exceptional with them.

I mean, come on, that is exactly the attitude and mind set we are crying out for. It is in fact exactly what we are always asking of our players... To commit to building something great instead of choosing the easy option and jumping ship as soon as a bigger club comes calling.

The guy has practically let out a battle cry that he is ready to take a failing, big club and drag it back to where it should be... How can you not be turned on by that? Add to that his heritage and prestige and the type of player that can attract and he is the perfect candidate.

So he has no experience in the Prem? Are we kidding ourselves that with the changes that will happen this summer we are mounting a serious campaign next season?

Let the guy bed in for a season and be a bit more long sighted and by 15/16 we will have one of the most ambitious and highly thought of coaches in world football with a team he has had a year to work with and a year of Prem experience himself.

Well, first of all he did get on the blower when AVB left. Remember a man named Van Gaal? Let's face it, it seems pretty clear that Van Gaal is likely to have said "come back in the summer" and, until the United job opened up, there weren't any other clubs at the top of the PL who would've been looking for a manager now. It's not unreasonable that Levy thought he'd likely get his man.

Also, once the job was officially given to Sherwood levy couldn't get someone sewn up during the interim as the club had to be careful not to carry out actions which might give rise to a breach of Sherwood's contract. Why do you think we posted a message on our website denying any approaches? Ever seen us do that over a player? As it is it seems we were having "informal chats" left right and centre, which is legally dubious to say the least.

So really it is only now that we can get something sewn up, therefore now is when we must act the most carefully. I highly doubt Levy is not now "flicking through the list of candidates". I;m sure he has already determined who he wants to speak to. But that doesn't mean that he's had a chance to properly interview everyone.

If only it was the first time we'd heard that one though.....

LVG has gone....will you be as patient in 6 weeks when Poch signs a new deal at Southampton, and FDB decides that Newcastle are also a sleeping giant, and one that are willing to pay him what he wants, and make him feel like they actually want him there....by signing him up.

Take a bow son, spot on with everything you've said there

If reports are true that Levy backed out cos he was pissed off that FDB leaked the meeting, then its just another massive facepalm....

It cannot be true, surely...?!

I doubt it.

Reports are focusing on Pochettino because there has been nothing "out there" to report on with FDB. So they say we arent interested now and try and justify it with that line. And yet other sources say FDB has been away for a week and so will only now (or soon?) be in a position to talk to us. It was reported Aaron Winter (I believe a friend of his) has been quoted as saying FDB believes he is on his way to Spurs, strangely very few picked up on this.

I think if we wanted Pochettino and not FDB we would have got him by now. All week the press have been banging his drum, whats stopping us from making an approach? We could have done the deal already.

We are clearly waiting for something. IMO its FDB.

By the way - are there no viable English options available? Our 'local' core has been reduced to a few players only, further amplified by the Brazil 23 where no Spurs player found space. Why is no one mentioning Pulis for example - higher win-rate than Pochetinno with a far shitter team, did wonders at Palace last season, proven PL experience.

So will you or wont you be as patient, if yet again, we miss out on our first choices and have to settle for mediocre in a few weeks?

I couldnt really work the smiley out.
It just amuses me that no matter what response a person gives you, you'll always find an angle to argue about and, if you don't have one, you'll try your to maneuver a person into creating one for you.

What I said above is let's do this properly - if that takes a few more weeks before the transfer window opens, so be it. I said no more or no less than that.

It's true, FDB was the other side of the world last week probably working on the handover in an ajaxy way (we hope) where as Pochetino could have been installed 5 seconds after the final whistle

Not that it means anything but the odds on FDB have shortened every day we have waited, I am sure a point of discussion is who Frank brings with him and who stays at Ajax which as you can expect will take some ironing out

I think your right and I hope your right too..
FDB at spurs makes me jizz in my pants:dude:

Well in that case, all I said from the beginning was that we have been patient with Levy, but the current situation excuses a little impatience from the fans, due to his track record.

Its called a debate...we could all make one statement and leave it there, but then a forum would be pointless.

I have to say if it was me I would have all the research done ready to install someone at the end of the season but do you all think this could be a sign that Levy could be really doing due diligence this time to not fuck up again

It could be him being cautious or the owners saying ok mate get this right, this could also explain wait as well as Ajax handover plan

As a general rule of thumb the bookies know their stuff. I know a lot of their price movements can be reactionary, but in this instance - given the lack of actual noise - I find the shortening odds quite telling.

FDB seems a smart guy, and while he is ready to move (it seems) and is IMO ideally suited to us/us to him, he wont jump at the first offer. I think he will want things on his terms as much as possible, including things like back room team, and this could well take time to sort out.

Its possible his agent has been doing some groundwork, but given he is only just back Im guessing only now will the details be getting ironed out.

Incidentally, I fully expect press reports in the next day or two detailing how we are losing out on Pochettino, he is getting fed up with waiting/doesnt like not being first choice/Southampton have convinced him to stay. We will be painted as in a panic, missing out, blah, blah - all because there is actually nothing to report and no apparent activity. They built the story up, they have to conclude it... And of course off of the back of that this place will go into meltdown!
