Management New Manager?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Everton are not exactly flush with cash. Money talks in this business. It's not like his club or he himself is of much stature.

Honestly I dont think there is much to choose between them. While FDB has operated in a weaker league, he has also won more, got more european experience etc.

I also think Martinez still has to prove he can manage a full season consistently.

That is an opinion by the way. One with nothing to substantiate it it since he is in the Scotland of football leagues and he's managing the big dog of clubs.

He's a glamour name. Not "by far the best".

Incidentally Ajax are not the powerhouse they once were, there is genuine competition in Holland right now and De boer has managed a record 4 titles on the bounce while losing his best players season on season.

For example, Feyenoord have 7 in the Holland squad, Ajax only 3 (iirc).

Not sure if this has been asked already (can't be bothered to check through 33 pages of posts), but where do we go if Poch, FDB and Ancelotti (HAHAHAHA) all turn us down?

Fortunately it appears de Boer is rather adamant for the job, so I've no idea who the club has sounded out as far as backup plans, or if they even have one given the expressed interest from de Boer.

Ha I've never sin-binned you.

It is rather obvious however, what he was referring to. Lister has proven himself far more intelligent over and over than to make such a blatant contradiction.

"Ajax are not the powerhouse they once were, there is genuine competition in Holland right now and De boer has managed a record 4 titles on the bounce while losing his best players season on season."

And Lister is a good poster. We just don't agree on much.

Yep. What I think is the edge is Martinez knows the league inside out.

It is a real benefit, same as with Pochettino. However its not the biggest requisite for me on this one, IMHO in managing to the title (not least 4 times) FDB has gained experience beyond either so far. How to go the distance, how to grind out results, how to be pragmatic with playing style when losing players and still win...

This is, IMO, credit to excellent management - not the obvious contradiction you seem to think it is. Year on year their squad quality is reduced, while the likes of PSV and Feyenoord are genuinely very strong by comparison, and year on year they still win. IMHO it is because FDB is making the difference, not because their inherent quality puts them at the top.

As I said, barely a feature in the national squad, which I think is very telling for a team like Netherlands who traditionally have a lot of home based players.

He meant European powerhouse. Different arenas of relativity.

I didnt, Gibbs is right. Was posting on the rush while at work so perhaps didnt phrase it properly.

Traditionally Ajax are equitable to the likes of Celtic/Rangers in Scotland, Barc/Madrid in Spain - head and shoulders above the others in the league. Better quality by a distance. "Powerhouse".

These days that simply isnt true, IMO. Of course they are up there, but there isnt the disparity. There are 3 other teams giving them very real competition for the league.

You'll have to forgive me for assuming it much more likely that you didn't contradict yourself, especially given Ajax' not-so-distant past, and that he read it poorly based on two rather prevalent trends here. Fact of the matter is, Ajax certainly are not the powerhouse they used to be in Europe or Holland, and are indeed constantly being poached by bigger clubs. And I agree with your point that de Boer makes the difference.

Hahaha now someone on COYS has said that Martinez is actually interested. No idea if there's any validity or not, but this whole day has just gone upside down. If true, Gibbsy read a statement accurately and there's actually a chance with Martinez. Unreal.
