In fairness, I am not sure, other than Red Bull Salzburg, of a time prior to his arrival at Benfica where he was at a club in a position to be able to compete for them.

Definitely don’t want tuchel or Enrique
Assuming conte sees out the season I’m looking forward to the Brighton game on the 8th de zerbi is an intriguing possibility
From what I have read about him, his high tempo gegenpressen style would go over very well with the fans. Not sure how Kane or an aging Son would work in that system, though. The rest of the team (Udogie, Porro, any of our CMs, Deki, Richie, Danjuma, Gil) should do fine. If he gets the results Klopp has gotten, might be a good shout.
A lot of shiny new toy syndrome with him though.
The problem I have with De Zerbi is that he's walked into perfect conditions, he hasn't had to do much because of the talent and the infrastructure already in place at Brighton.
We are a world away from that, we have mish mash of players signed under different managers, we have a squad who have been playing at low intensity and a low press for the last 5 years, a WC striker who may not be here next season and another forward who is on his way down (Son)- Those 2 players have carried the club on it's back for years and will need to be replaced at some point so you will have to replace the goals.
And you have a DOF who is probably gonna do jail time if not serve a sentence.
All this at a big club like ours with the fans who have ran out of patience and who are success starved and expect the club to be pushing for a top 4 place and a trophy.
With him or a manager who has been at relitavely smaller sized clubs who haven't had to firefight on multiple fronts at club like this, is De Zerbi or all these hipster names with little experience really the managers to come in and take over, it's a massive job.
That's why I'm not against Poch coming in because he has come into this club already under worse conditions AND he will be able to buy time the fans and the media when we are sitting in 9th on the back of a 2-0 loss to Brentford in November for example, because he will know how to manage the club out of that situation and fans and the club know what he can do and won't bail ok him at the first sign of trouble.
The problem here is that the fans have higher expectations now than when Poch originally joined us. Not only because he was an unknown quantity at the time, but also because he joined he had to do a complete squad revamp and the fans realized that and gave him time.A lot of shiny new toy syndrome with him though.

Is he like a Haasenhutl or can he play boring/defensive when he needs to?From what I have read about him, his high tempo gegenpressen style would go over very well with the fans. (I still would prefer Gallardo, though)
Why would you take the last 6 months of Poch's reign as an overall comparison when he was there for 5 years?

If we add a quality CB and GK this summer, he won't have to do as much as he did in 2014/15. He'll just need to get a tune out of the players. And the fans' expectations will be much higher, not only because it's Poch, but because the feeling is that we have most of the pieces in place to do really well.
So if we're sitting in 9th after a 2-0 loss to Brentford in November, a lot of them will be mumbling whether it was the right choice to bring him back. Now if the football we are playing is attractive and there is a clear view of how the team is progressing, there might not be as much mumbling. So the question is whether Poch can get us back on track from the off. Or if we need to find that manager that can get us firing right away.
It all depends on the team he has available and the conditioning of the players. If he's playing the same team on the weekend that played during the week, it'll probably not be as gung ho. He has changed his style over the years, especially when he was coaching in China, as he realized that he could not demand the constant high pressing from his players. Is he like a Haasenhutl or can he play boring/defensive when he needs to?
They have higher expectations of how the team should be performing. I don't think they'll care which manager we hire, as long as the team is performing to expectations based on the quality of players we have (and assuming that we further strengthen in areas of need in the summer). The narrative with Poch is that he will get us performing at a high level and what I pointed out is that, if that doesn't happen, there will be mumbling if we're 9th in November after a 2-0 defeat to Brentford. If the fans have higher expectations now than before then why do I keep seeing De Zerbi's and Gallardo's names constantly popping up?
Some impatient fans may get on his back in that scenario but there's no way the board will pull the trigger on Poch at that point.
You do realise that people are probably going to keep calling him Enrique to wind you up?![]()
