The mentality isn't there from the top, I think Newcastle's owners are determined not to be out done by the city ones.
That type of political rivalry is what we could do with, not the passive shit we endure from our lot, who want the money but don't deliver.
You do realize it will take many many years for Newcastle to get anywhere close to City's level, right? You think because they were taken over by Saudis that they can spend anything they want? They still have to generate revenue to cover their costs. This is not the mid-2000s when Chelsea and City were bought and the owners could pump as much money as they wanted into their clubs. They have less revenue than even Leicester and the Spammers. And building up that revenue isn't easy. It's a very gradual process that takes many years.

Yes, they are doing well in the league this year, but that's because they have made some good signings, have a very good manager that has put together a decent team, have no Europe to contend with, and have been relatively injury-free. They might make top 4 this year, what with us, Chelsea, and Liverpool all struggling, but it's going to be a really tough proposition in the foreseeable future.

With Poch and Nagelsmann supposedly not in Levy's plans I am becoming very convinced we're getting Rodgers.

It makes sense as a total Levy hire. He always wants someone who he thinks can get more out of the players he's got; he doesn't want to spend on refreshing the team.

It's been the same story since Poch's results dropped off due to the staleness of the roster. Levy always believes he's given the manager enough to win 4th place, if we aren't in 4th place then he thinks the manager's at fault.

And now he'll say he's had to freeze ticket prices and there won't be money to spend.

That is why I believe Rodgers must be the favorite to land the job at this point.

I wonder if Levy wouldn't go with Potter but my "bad feeling about this" detector is off-scale high at this point

You mean to say Rodgers is the only manager out there who can get more out of the players he's got? You haven't been following football very long, have you?

It's obvious Mrs Perryman Mrs Perryman we're waiting for Chelsea...just like with Willian.. 😔

Yep, that sounds about right!

No, certainly I don't believe that. But the perception that Rodgers overachieved with modest resources is exactly what tickles Levy's fancy.

FSG told Klopp they were willing to invest to transform the team and he believed them.

ENIC told Conte they were willing to invest to transform the team and he believed them.

Spurs have gotten the benefit of the doubt from two of the most decorated and sought-after managers in modern football history since Levy sabotaged the Poch project. You only get so many do-overs.
Maybe we could find a manager called Mulligan

To think that Rodgers is an option is mind blowing. Leicester are a soft side that can’t do the ugly side of the game and are the worst I’ve ever seen at this level defending set pieces. The one thing that Conte did give us that we never got battered 3,4 or 5 in a game. It was just that we sacrificed playing more freely when we did have the ball.
Is it too much to ask for someone who can give us both. Liverpool in their pomp in the last 4 or 5 years is what I’d love to see us play like. Dogs at the back not scared to put their foot through it when needed but so quick and intense from back four to front three to win it back. I don’t want us taking the ball from the back because we aren’t good enough. Very few teams can do it in world football. I don’t want us sitting off trying to counter teams. There’s nothing better seeing your team go after the opposition high up the pitch and if they play through you then fair play to them but if you press right and the whole team goes with intensity you will win it back 90% of the time. Too many managers set teams up not to lose and with a fear to lose. We need a brave manager who isn’t scared to lose being positive. We all lose sometime but you’ll win an awful lot more going after teams than sitting off the game being pragmatic and full of fear.

This constant rubbish about the owners is tiring.

Pochettino picked Kane ahead of hero Moura.

It wasn't Levy's hand that handled the ball in the CL final or whatever else.

So...

Rodgers stinks too much of a NES level managerial appointment. I think Levy will be keen to avoid getting anyone he knows we will bei pissed off with from day 1, Potter and Rodgers are definitely too controversial after their recent results. It'd be fine to get a less sexy name as long as they play an exciting brand of football and there's a clear vision in place to start fresh and rebuild the side over the next 4 years. I don't wanna go and try to take Roberto De Zerbi off Brighton off the back of most of one good season though, that stinks of potential failure. He needs to cut his teeth for a few years at Brighton before he should seriously be in the picture.
Having said that, I wouldn't be annoyed if we went for someone like Gallardo. Has been very successful at River and seems destined to be a top manager, if we open the chequebook we could be bringing the next mastermind coach to Europe. Language barrier could prove a slight issue to begin with but to be fair Poch was learning it on the job at Southampton and it didn't really prove a big issue for him. By all accounts he plays an attacking brand of football also, and if it's true he's put his name in the ring for the Chelsea job, it means he's open to a move to the PL, so there's the potential there to bring him in, and I don't think he would yet command the kind of wage we would baulk at paying.
I think Chelsea will ultimately end up with Nagelsmann, they need someone who's a big enough name in Europe to match that outlay on the squad and he's about the sexiest name available this summer. Failing that I think Zidane might be interested, he probably see it as a good opportunity to walk into a team that will build a dominant team over the next couple of years that he can send out with very little instruction and just sweep everything, keeping the dressing room egos in check by sheer power of how fucking legendary he is. So I do rather they ultimately end up with Nagelsmann as that's a real 50/50. But either way I don't think Nagelsmann will fancy us, too much work to do under too much pressure of expectation and not enough resources. He's gotten the Bayern level job, we are not gonna be viewed as a truly elite club by that tier of manager because we have won fuck all in decades.

People are probably worried because he is seen as "untested". And holding him not beating Jose in the Conference League final against him.

There's definitely a section of the fanbase that expects us to exclusively go for "big" names. Because that is apparently a sign of ambition.

I'd prefer Slot and allowing him to put together a plan for how to develop the team. He's great and has so much promise.
If his first name was Sid I'd be all for him!
