Interesting thread but I don't know where this nice guy tag has come from the Joe Hart incident was cvnty and he was extremely negative in pressers and impassive on the sideline similar to the current clown (sorry I meant to say messiah)
Good mangers are NOT nice guys. Never been a winning one who was nice in the modern game. Pep was just as tough on Hart and I wish Postecoglou would be as uncompromising with Romero.

I think that there's a difference to be made here between being nice and being "nice".

I think that a lot of top managers are nice guys, but they have to know when to be "the boss" and when not to be.

It's a different sport but Greg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs is definitely known as a nice guy and 99% of his players historically love him. But he's also very much a drill seargeant hardass and his entire management culture is that no player is above the rest of the team. But everyone that signs for San Antonio knows this and that Pop will be brutally honest with them.

Granted, he has been there for going on 3 decades so it is very much set in stone at this point.

Three decades mean you build the very fabric of a place. In the revolving door of modern elite soccer they are all pretty ruthless uncompromising men.

He’s always done well playing his style of football and I’m glad to see Forest doing well.

He could never have succeeded here though. That style would never be accepted here and he isn’t a good enough manager to be able to deviate from it. Asking Nuno to return to the “Tottenham DNA” was the stupidest thing this club has ever done.

He’s a good mid table manager. That’s probably where they’ll end up settling. And it’s better than most managers would do for them. Solid for both parties.

At his best he could have a team where Wolves were. Ultimately they also got bored with the playstyle but look where they are now..

Hes a likeable guy anyway. Go and do well.

As in , if he’d gotten the time required he’d have done the same we us?
Honestly yeah. If an unmotivated Conte can have us 5th for most of the season despite us clearly being shit I think Nuno who at the very least would've tried his best could've had us in 5th/6th if he was allowed to set us up that way and given players who suit that style.

That being said almost all of us wanted Conte gone despite having us in 5th so Nuno wouldn't have lasted either.

Respect to Nuno and am glad he’s doing well for Forest, but the comparison between his tenure with us and Ange now is disingenuous - all the metrics under Nuno were pointing to us getting relegated.

We were sneaking tight wins and getting absolutely smashed in defeats - It’s been the opposite under Ange.

Nuno was a terrible appointment and so many levels, and it wasn’t his fault. It’s exactly the same reason a Thomas Frank would be a disaster here.

We weren't going to get relegated under Nuno lol. We would've finished like 8th if it continued.

Sometimes players fit the clubs they're at...

Sometimes managers do too...

Nuno fits Forest like a glove, and good for them.

Same as Nicholson, Burkinshaw, Jol, Redknapp, Poch (and hopefully Ange) fit us...
...and, dare I say it, Wenger fit the Arse, but Emery didn't!

Nothing personal, just sometimes it just 'is what it is'!

This is NOT true regarding the underlying metrics ( relegation give over)and I am not a devotee of the modern data bible. If you believe this you should be just as concerned NOW as there are some stats that surfaced this week that are just as damning. And I don't buy Ange is heading for a relegation battle either. Four months for Nuno we were 8th 10 it's iirc behind the leaders, today 10th 12pts is it. Think we'd lost five out of seven. Playing a system NES did not want to play. The club poisoned the entire tenure. Thankfully they are behind this coach let's all hope he justifies the faith starting with battering Villa.

We were sinking like a stone, would have flirted with it at the least,

3-0 away to palace
3-0 home to Chelsea
3-0 down in 20 mins at the Emirates
1-0 away to West Ham
Smashed at Home by Man Utd 3-0

Also all our metrics in terms of chances being allowed and created had us in the bottom 3, and these almost always catch up to you.

Ange is actually in the top 3 of Metrics, and I’m sure our record will start to reflect that. When we win, we win well, all the defeats have been by a single goal.

No we wouldn't, he would've eventually settled on a style of play and made us an ok counter attacking team.

I felt sorry for Nuno and he took the stick with dignity
Best of luck to him providing they don’t take points off us!

We don't know that he would. Maybe. Maybe not.

It was fucking chronic though. I can't remember who was against but I do remember we celebrated a shot on target in one game because by that point we'd gone over two hours without one. We weren't celebrating goals, just finally having a shot.

It wasn't just bad, it's was totally hopeless.

He's a counter attacking manager, if he was given more time and told to just get results instead of trying to play a certain way, he would've done that. Ten Hag did exactly that 3 games into his reign at Man Utd, same with Maresca this season.

He got Wolves to 7th in back to back seasons, he definitely could've finished somewhere around there with us.
