How do diapers play virtually same 11 as on Saturday and win 5-1 away at Porto. What do their players have in them that gets them to be up for it and have energy to go out play fast, pressing front foot ball?
Surely any decent coach can set their team up to press and be on the front foot. This doesn’t necessarily mean we have to play possesion football from the back but means like citeh and pool you keep the opposition penned in to their own half. We don’t really have defenders or great midfielders to play through the lines. Better to try and just play higher up the pitch.
You play for Liverpool. I guess their ethos from the moment you walk through the door is “you are here to win”

For our club, the ethos is seemingly “we got you cheap. If you turn out to be any good we will sell you on or bleed you dry. Just don’t get relegated in between arrival & departure. Anything else a bit of a bonus”

The difference is, I could see that Poch had a style and I could understand what he was trying to achieve.
With Nuno I haven't got a scooby what's going on, he picks an attacking team against Chelsea and Woolwich away where we have a notoriously shit record and then plays an ultra defensive side against Palace.

He picks Ndombele to presumably play through the midfield yet against Woolwich one in three of our passes were hopeful long punts.

And don't even get me started on our running stats, which are the worst in the division.
Well, that was basically the point of my post. Hes got to start showing there is a plan.

I'm not going to get revisionist here. Until that December supporters were going apeshit over how Poch was a fraud we only appointed because he was cheap. You can check the transcripts in his thread.

Nuno has a lot to prove in the next couple of months, in my book. But he's got the leash to prove it.

:sonpoint:

That doesn’t sound too bad. Harry will do the motivation and make players feel 10 feet tall. Howe can do the trading drills. Got to be than those shite. Remember Ramos went after 8 games. We now have international breaks so next it is. If we lose or draw with another zero performance pull the trigger. Levy the cheap skate would surely go for Harry and Howe both available for free.
And I would imagine that they would both enjoy it as would our players

Spot on. We're never going to spend like an oil club and I'm okay with that, yes more investment at points was needed (especially when they basically just rested on their laurels with Poch) but since then we've spent decent amounts here on there, it's just been on garbage.

How the hell did we spend 100m+ on midfielders in a summer yet still have it as our weakest area of the pitch, where the brightest light is arguably a kid coming through the youth side? It's shockingly incompetent.

Then you look at us spending 60m+ on Clarke, Sessegnon and Bergwijn. Throwing loan fees at a non-entity like Gedson Fernandes. Another 15 on one of the worst right backs I've ever seen in Doherty, a man who was an inverted wing back in a 5 then arrived here and was asked to play for Jose in a 4.

Even going further back we had 40m on the clumsy mess that is Sanchez, 20 on Janssen and money down the drain on N'jie and Nkoudou. All clubs make crap signings but christ, when money is tight you'd think you'd spend it more effectively. I don't wanna judge Emerson too quickly but so far it's 22m on a right back and the youth player who is a cb looks better there.

I'm almost scared of us actually going on a legitimate splurge, because there's a very good chance under this lot we'll just be left with an entirely different pile of mediocrity.
This exactly! So,there’s something massively wrong with our scouting/ recruitment but Levy, who doesn’t like to throw money around is employing these idiots to throw it down the drain for him. Complete madness. For such a supposedly astute business man, you’d think he would see this as clearly as we all can? Looking at the likes of Leicesters recruitment, you would’ve thought he’d be asking some serious questions.

Get Redknapp in till the end of the season, at least it would be fun and we could still salvage something if we act quickly

Nuno is a mini Mourinho just without the spiteful side
I believe Harry Redknapp considers himself retired from football management now which is fair enough for a 74 year old.

And, let's face it, he's had a very good innings compared to most of his contemporaries who came to prominence in the early 90s. How many out of Joe Royle, Brian Little, Gerry Francis, Terry Venables, Ossie Ardiles, Frank Clark, Trevor Francis, Howard Wilkinson, Peter Reid, Bryan Robson and Glenn Hoddle were still getting football management jobs in the Premier League (or anywhere) by 2008?

No I just think people saying we are certain to get relegated aren’t very smart.

Sheringham wasn't a fan.
Kane should have been sold. It's backfired like anyone with half an ounce of common sense could see it would.
Nuno stayed passive and pathetic in the whole thing no doubt. Bet he never once said he wanted Kane gone and 2 younger players in his place. Just "yes daniel" to everything.
I just don’t know about the “Kane should’ve been sold” angle. I’m in agreement from a principled sort of position. But if the offer was really £75m plus add ons to get to £100m, you have to decline.

Of course Kane is doing fuck-all now. He should be sitting, but we have no backup…so we’ve screwed ourselves in that respect.

If I was Nuno and trying to save my job I would probably do something like set us up in in a compact mid block in defence. And put together the paciest attacking line I could muster. Aggressive press by the strikers early when we lose the ball so the midfield and defence can get in position or can cut off passing lanes. Try to win the ball as quickly as possible. And when we win the ball basically get forward as quickly as possible like the early Klopp Pool side. Make it a requirement to get a shot off within 15-20 seconds of winning it or something like that. Use quick 1-2s through midfield or bomb up with the fullbacks.

Nuno obviously doesn't have a plan for possession based attacking ball. So he should go smash mouth to try and save his job.

was thinking about this the other day surely Levy must think
I lost 75M not buying/selling Greaslish
I've lost 30M becuase we brought Tanguy
I've lost 20M because we brought GLC

wonder who he blames for all that money gone

I think Nuno is a decent chap, but that doesn’t mean he should be manager of one of the top 10 (potentially, at least) clubs in Europe.

But let’s not forget he was, what, 11th choice? There is a reason all the brightest managers in Europe turned down the chance to lead us: there is a malaise at the club and everyone else could see it was a poisoned chalice. The moneyball men, the German tacticians, the up and coming Brits, they could all see that this job was a hiding to nothing, and they ran a mile.

The problem is that, while the team stinks, you can imagine the scenes at ENIC Board meetings: never mind the football, look at all the lovely money we made from the Joshua fight $$$

So many people saying we should sack Nuno, but not many people presenting viable options to replace him...

Most realistic shouts on here are for managers with a few good wins recently - a dangerous strategy. Many wanted Hasenhuttl this time last year - would they want him now? (Though to be fair to him, he's had more than his fair share of extenuating circumstances to excuse at least some poor performances...)

I'm not saying I want Nuno to stay - I never wanted him in the first place, no one did - but I'm not sure who we realistically could have got then (after about 10 possibles had 'failed' one way or another), and I'm not sure who we could realistically get now - our 'stock' must be even lower now than it was 3-6 months ago. :(

We won't get 75m much less add ons now. That's why it was stupid not to take it.
Levy has fucked us, unless he makes up the shortfall from the money he's be stashing away for years.
If Kane had been dragging the team up with stallar performances it would have made sense but he's been as bad as the rest of them.

Dithering again, why is the fool still here? Need a new manager in place before Villa and certainly by Newcastle, even an interim

Although I am for sacking Nuno, afraid if we have a better manager as long as Levy is there. No one may like working with Levy.
The biggest problem is Levy doesn't seem to know what he wants.

If he wanted a young, dynamic team that wouldn't have cost the earth and played this mythical "Tottenham DNA" football, you bring in Ten Hag. A coach more than a manager who brings on young players and finds formations for the personnel. If you want a big name winner who will cost a fortune, bring in Conte.

Levy wanted A with B, employed Paradinky who came up with neither A nor B, instead came up with L and just picked someone he liked and signed a few players he had heard of.
