It is perfectly possible to generate a really good, hostile atmosphere at the new stadium (just look at the Woolwich game in 2022).

But it appears atmospheres like that are few and far between.

Imagine if the majority of games had that level of hostility. Would be a thing of beauty.
Something disappointing for me is the match day atmosphere. You rightly mention Woolwich 2022, but generally it's a bit wet, I don't think having tens of thousands of spectators (not supporters) helps with this.

It will take time to build atmosphere and memories but the gentrification of the crowd itself isn't helping matters.

Modern stadiums gave killed the atmosphere at home games. Away days still feel the same because you are the minority and that camaraderie amongst everyone is always there.

At the new stadium I can honestly say that on a handful of occasions has been incredibly loud. Woolwich under conte,a couple of games under city,Liverpool at home last season and Villa at home this season was great.

Going to the new stadium is great but the old ground was class.

Tomorrow night will be brilliant at Ibrox. Not looked forward to a game so much for years.
But as we saw for a short time under Conte that atmosphere can be electric in that stadium.

With old WHL we may be suffering a bit of recency bias, our last memories of it are the incredible Poch team. If we were performing like that now, and like we were for a brief period under Conte, the place would be buzzing. There was a short period for a while in 2021- 2022 it felt like we'd give anyone a fight on the pitch and the crowd were up for it. We made it a fortress.

The football on the pitch right now is boring and timid. It doesn't get the blood pumping unless you're one of these fabled neutrals who apparently love watching our shite brand of football.

The atmosphere can return, it just needs something worth getting excited about.

I don't find it boring and timid, I find it quite exciting at times, but predictable and one-dimensional. 100mph brainless suicideball which will lead to a lot of losses being tallied up if we stick with Ange 'til the end of the season.

I think we're in danger of going off topic here, but I still think boring sort of goes hand in hand with the predictable and one dimension aspect.

It's only exciting if the opposition are dumb enough to play into our hands.

But anyway.... Old WHL is historic and iconic. New WHL has the potential to be with time.

WHL for me, Nutter-Naylor Nutter-Naylor pretty much sums up my stance.

The new stadium is amazing but lightshows and beer filling from the bottom up just doesn't feel like the football experience I want. Give me the buzz of The Shelf in the 70's any day. Peanuts, roasted peanuts !

It’s the same everywhere.

I remember how exciting it was to go to places like Upton Park. Absolute shit hole, but it was visceral. Compare and contrast the dildo bowl now.

I sometimes think in newer stadiums, the acoustics are almost too good. The sound isn’t idiosyncratic or different. Everything sounds like it’s being piped in over radio.

It went South as soon as bastard Scolar ripped out the old Shelf for boxes. Billy Nick used to tell the team that the oppo got scared as soon as they walked onto the pitch opposite and looked up it.
Bastard Sugar? Couldn’t even get the right fucking shade of blue for the seats. Looked like I was at Chavs or Blue Mickeys.
Bastard levy? Don’t get me started.

At least Levy got the right shade of blue. Bur then he went and spoiled it all by having 'red' sponsors!!

True ... British pish feminised culture. Hi-viz cunts and rules everywhere. Don't do this ... don't say that ... smile ... you're on camera!

I actually prefer going to Loftus Road (have a mate who gets free tickets) to Spurs now. Not that I'm a QPR fan, but is at least half of what a real football crowd and atmosphere was.

And those day trippers then grass you up for swearing. Pathetic.

We have seen when we are at it how loud it can get but I agree that it has to come from the pitch first. Exciting skilful players and full bloodied tackles are what gets people up. For as much as Romero is getting criticised just now he’s one that does get you up when he smashes someone,VDV when he’s at full pelt bullying players running back or bombing forward.
The sad part of what I’ve just said is that we have two players who can get us off our feet and they are centre backs. That’s why we are in a mess right now.

Under conte when he first came in you felt something special was happening and the atmosphere was really good but the club never gave him what he wanted to kick on.

Yep the new stadium is too big. You don’t know if half of the people around you are spurs fans, day trippers, people there to watch their favourite player on an opposing fan. They’ve fucked the actual match watching experience.
Exactly! I don't know why season ticket holders aren't seated together. One of my friends sits two rows behind me, and she requested if she could be moved next to me, as it definitely is not a ST. They refused for whatever reason. It's this sort of inflexibility that doesn't help the situation.
The powers that be don't care who they sell the seat to, or even if the purchaser doesn't turn up.

Many memories of old White Hart Lane, loved the place. Had a Season Ticket back row of the Paxton lower for the last 5 years or so. Loved it. Best memory must be Kane in mask curling a beautful goal in from the west side against Woolwich. Literally had the perfect view of it. I knew or at least recognised everyone around me.

We needed to rebuild but the new stadium is not the same. 30,000 extra fans don't add to the atmosphere it just dilutes it. Its more comfortable but I'm further away from the pitch, view not as good, not made the same bonds with people nearby. Atmosphere doesn't compare at all - but that is modern football generally, not just our stadium.

Big regret not going on the pitch on the final day, I just stood there fixed taking it all in. Really should of gone on just for a bit, won't get the opportunity again sadly.

It won’t take time or improve - it’s getting worse very quickly thanks to ticket exchange. Think back to the first 6 months and it was pretty good but now ST holders sell on 10’s of thousands tickets to neutrals, away fans and PL spectators. It’s fucking shite

Easiest solution to that it is once you sell a certain % of your games you have to give it up.

The exchange is useful for me because in the last 4 years there has genuinely been maybe 3 matches I couldn't get to and it was a simple way of getting some money back. People who buy a season then sell 75% of their tickets are just taking the piss and banking up loyalty points and shouldn't have one.

Perhaps one thing that is better in the new stadium....

I think the powers that be would rather harm the atmosphere in the pursuit of ticket sales than risk not having a "sell out" every game.

Basically, it seems fairly obvious that if you took ST's away from people who don't attend 75% of games then you would probably no longer have a "waiting list" for the season tickets that are cancelled. Then you have to hope that you have enough interest from the members every match in order to sell out.

Selling 40,000 season tickets ensures that the money is raked in whether or not the seat is occupied.
