It just so happens, the player Newcastle are looking to sign is of the same name, plays the same position, and is of Mexican descent as well.

The problem is Spanish laws. He can't take less than a 50% paycut per the law. Like others have mentioned, even if Messi was able to play for free, the club is still in major debt.
Nobody will blame Messi for taking the money offered previously but when he was making over a million euros a week, that should have been a red flag that it's not sustainable. Players like him and clubs like Barca are ruining the game with the money involved.
Barcelona are interested in Aubameyang & Lacazette it seems, obviously seeing the Scum lose them would be great, but this just makes an even bigger mockery of FFP if Barcelona, who just admitted a debt of £1.15bn are still able to buy high profile players.

I'd argue that without Aubamayang, the Scum would have struggled to make top 10 the last few seasons.
He scored 10 EPL goals last year and they only finished 2points off of 10th anyway.

And it isn't trivial stuff either. It is downright kidnapping and attempted murder.

Think Abraham will prove to be an excellent signing for Roma. He's nowhere near his full potential and still has tons to improve and learn, yet already isn't too far away from averaging a goal every other game. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he moves for more than double of what Roma paid in two or three years time.
Chelsea already has a buy back clause for 80 mil in 2023.
