I don't have a problem with players going to Saudi Arabia, but when you make yourself out to be an LGBT ally then I do believe that you should be willing to make sacrifices for that cause, like not taking money from an extremely anti-LGBT nation. Especially when you're already incredibly wealthy.
I do have some sympathy with footballers in that whether they mean to or not they get dragged into politics but yeh he probably should have simply kept more quiet during his career if he wanted to keep his options more open, now he looks fake.
I do actually know a gay guy down my local who worked in Saudi for 6 months, obviously he couldn’t be openly gay which for him must have been hard as he is very forward.
Weird thing is he said Saudi is 2/3X more gay more than U.K. in some ways. His ‘’gaydar’’ was at overload at points, the woman are segregated from society heavily and a lot of the men are very touchy with other men probably as many of them have no access to women. In public there is the pretence of piousness and in private it is like a French whorehouse, whiskey is heavily used by the Saudis not just westerners in compounds, they fucking love it apparently.
He was part of the so called Saudiisation drive. This is where Saudis who have gotten fat off oil money learn to work again and get training. Apparently they are not good workers but he had to write up when he left how great they all where.
Sounded like a really odd country. It would be the western equivalent of growing up ultra rich with evangelical parents but secretly being up for partying all the time. Like an entire country in the closest.
