In order to have a squad of 25 in EL, Spurs need to have a minimum of 4 Club Trained players and 8 players trained at clubs affiliated to The FA (including a minimum of 4 Club trained players within the 8 players)

Spurs currently have :

1 Club Trained - 4 ( Kane, Bale, Winks, Whiteman, )

However other than Kane who walks into any team,
- Bale is at Spurs on a one year loan, and only if successful will the loan be extended : it is possible he will only be at Spurs this season or maybe two seasons
- Winks has become a squad player and no longer a guaranteed starter.
- Whiteman is in the squad as 3rd GK, but has never played in a professional game

Whilst we hope Tanganga will recover and become a regular first team player, and next season as a 21 year old will take a Club trained player, it still means Spurs Club trained cohort are not the strongest.

Skipp and Parrott will both qualify as u21's next season, and are the next hopes to become Club Trained players in due course, but their development is not assured. Cirkin and White may be the next likely candidates but have played no professional games to date - in turn that suggests its possibly 2 seasons time before they would be good enough to play regularly for Spurs.

2 Other Assoc Trained 4 (Hart, Doherty, Dele, Clarke)

- Hart may only be at Spurs for a year or two before retirement,
- Doherty : There is still some uncertainty as to whether he qualifies (due to a loan at Hibernian whilst at Wolves which might mean he qualifies only as Overseas Trained),
- Dele's future at Spurs is widely questioned
- Clarke is very inexperienced : I'd imagine he goes on loan either in January or next season after getting some playing time at Spurs.

Again, the squad value and longevity of these 4 players is less than we might hope. Its neither easy nor cheap to buy Home Grown players of quality, and if we had more Club Trained players any excess over 4 could be included in this category.

Spurs did a great job to 'paper over the cracks' and bring in players in the last transfer window which helps meet the Club Trained and HG player quota, but our ability to repeat that is limited - Stephen Caulker back ?

In summary, there is a strong footballing (to get a full squad of quality players) and commercial reason to try to bring through more Club Trained players over the next couple of years - not to do so would significantly impact our footballing future.

When will the new EPL and EL squads be announced?

I would think clubs will have sent their updated squads to PL, possibly as early as this evening, so vetted by PL and published in the next day or two.

Next EL game on 18th February so again sent to UEFA today/tomorrow and published either later this week or early next week (ie at least a week before the game)

I would think EL squad will be :
Lloris (Hart, Whiteman)
Doherty (Aurier) - Sanchez (Tanganga, ) - Alderweireld (Dier) - Reguilon (Davies)
Hojbjerg (Sissoko) - Lo Celso (Winks)
Bale (Moura) -Ndombele ( Dele) - Son (Bergwijn, Lamela)
Kane (Vinicius )

Those 24 players, categorised by UEFA would be :
Club Trained - 4 ( Kane, Bale, Winks, Whiteman, )
Other Assoc Trained 2 (Hart, Dele)
Overseas Trained 17 (Lloris, Aurier, Doherty, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon, Davies, Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Lucas, Ndombele, Son, Bergwijn, Vinicius, Lamela)
Under 21's 1 - Tanganga

No Space for extra Overseas Trained Players - Rodon

There are 2 spare HG places, possibly one to Alfie Devine (does not qualify as an u21 as he has not been at Spurs for 2 years), leaving one spare HG space (possibly George Marsh only remaining over 21 in u23's or Marcel Lavenier an u23 RB arrived this year ? ).

The likely PL Squad :

Lloris (Hart, Whiteman)
Doherty (Aurier) - Sanchez (Rodon, Tanganga, ) - Alderweireld (Dier) - Reguilon (Davies)
Hojbjerg (Sissoko) - Lo Celso (Winks)
Bale (Moura) -Ndombele ( Dele) - Son (Bergwijn, Lamela)
Kane (Vinicius )
Those 25 players categorised by PL as :
Home Grown - 9 ( Kane, Bale, Winks, Whiteman, Hart, Dele, Doherty, Davies Rodon )
Overseas Trained 15 (Lloris, Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Lucas, Ndombele, Son, Bergwijn, Vinicius, Lamela)
Under 21's 1 - Tanganga

All u21's can be registered as there is no time limit at the club to qualify to play

Outside chance, but club may well put Danny Rose in both squads. Mourinho may not play him, another manager might want him, and there is space.

Think its just as likely we get a free agent (ie player without a club) in a position we are short - as an example only Tom Huddlestone (DM/CM|) was released by Derby in July 2020,

But I wouldn't bet on either

Mourinho on whether he put Joe Rodon into the Europa League squad

We didn't. We didn't. You know, a hard decision but a decision where we wanted to show respect for the group. We wanted to show respect to the people that started the competition.

It would be very, very hard for the group to cope with one of the players who was involved to be out.

We kept Tanganga in spite of good possibillites the kid had to go out on loan. We kept him because then Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez, Dier, Alderweireld. We have to do it without Rodon.

We believe that by the emotional impact it has less impact on a player who was not part of the squad to stay out until the end of the season than a player who was part of it, a player who played in the group stage, to get him and to change him. We decided to not go in that direction so it's Joe the player who is still out.

Of course Gedson and Gazzaniga they left but they were not also in the list. So not one single spot that was open. It was just a decision between Joe or another one and we decided to give that stability to the group.
