the worrying thing is the manager thought it was better to play 4/5 kids and not have any of the deadwood senior players on the bench to make changes

Agree.

I've seen people going way over the top about this result. Yes it was a disappointment, but look at the squad. There was no one in their from Sunday. It's not like the 11 from last night will start this weekend.

We need a few more signings, no doubt about it, but this isn't the end of the world.
I think this is an embarrassing result for the club tbh. It's a competition below the europa league we are probably the favourites in and we've been beat by an average Portuguese side.

You lot on here are so negative what’s wrong with you?

It’s 0-1 after the 1st leg.

What was good to see regardless of the result and individual performances was youth players were given starts and decent amounts of minutes on the pitch

All 3 summer signings starting the game

Nuno’s team selection was totally justified treating it as a pre season friendly to integrate some of the players.

It’s 0-1 can’t see anything to panic about when we are at home next week for 2nd leg and will be on the front foot from the start.

It was basically used as a pre-season game and we learned quite a bit about our back-up players...sure Romero and Lo Celso looked dodgy, but then they were alongside CCV and Winks who had fucking nightmares...Gil looked useful and when he has better players around him he'll look even better...an in-form Dele and him on that left wing will be rather tasty.

Yep,if anything, that highlighted where we are weak,so hopefully gave baldy a kick up the arse.

This is the 4th manager (if you include Mason) who hasn't fancied Ndombele. At what point do you stop blaming the manager, and start pointing the finger at the player?
That is too simplistic a view.mason doesn’t count as the year thought winks could play Cm v citeh in LC final. Maureen started him in any games last season.
Remember the soton away game last season? If it wasn’t for ya gays bit of magic in the middle we wouldn’t have got back into the game.
heis surely still a better option than any of the 25 Nuno selected for this game!
To add Nuno has not even tried him yet in any system at least give him a go to show what he can do. We all know what winks can do bugger all yet he keeps getting players which he never takes the opportunity even though he wants to stay. You’d think he would have extra determination to do well!

Nail on head. Nuno planned this game quite wisely, to see what's what. Sadly for him, nobody turned up.

Maybe the manager was confident that the ones he played will get a result which can the be overturned at home...which is what happened. Now if he plays donkeys like winks, doherty, ccv etc again then thats the really worrying part.

that's why I said to play the same squad of the city game (except 2-3 changes: gollini romero gil)
can't change the whole team without consequences
and now the players that played yesterday will have zero confidence
nuno nuno...
We pressed and worked really really hard against city. Those guys needed rest instead of travelling and playing. We have a more important game vs wolves coming up for which they must be ready.
