We won’t if we field senior players who don’t have their heart in it. There’s no reason why we couldn’t or shouldn’t win this tournament. A trophy is a trophy. And it’s another European trophy ahead of the scum. I repeat. It isn’t the competition that we would ideally be in, because we’d rather be in more prestigious tournaments. But as we are in it, why not try to win it?
Would love us to win any trophy at the moment we are in no position to belittle any cup it's a good habit to get into winning things . A lot of our rivals even when they fell short in the league they picked up a cup often enough unlike us while finishing higher up the table we of course had no cup to celebrate.
Agree I'm not saying don't win it if you can but as a club we have an aversion to winning anything so don't bank on it.

Some people seem to value trophies in terms of "bragging rights" i.e. a trophy isn't worth anything if it's not one that Woolwich, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City care about and we can't say "Hah, hah! We won and we stuffed you on the way to getting it. Good luck with that losers medal!"
The fact that we lost our opening game shows that we will have to put some effort in if we want to compete. If we do that and we win the trophy I will be delighted and the sneering rival fans can go fuck themselves.
Just to put my 2p worth in, coz why not, but I don't think heavy rotation (especially in the early stages) in cup tournaments is mutually exclusive with winning them.
People used to moan about this with Poch, but we mostly rotated in early rounds and we got to a couple of finals/semi-finals of domestic cups doing that, with the strongest XI falling at the last hurdle.
Same for Europa, we have tended to rotate but we always got through the group stage doing so, at least that I can remember.

Would you be happy if we finished bottom half with awful league form after every one of the 15 or so games to win a cup you'd be mocked for celebrating?
Or worse, would you be happy playing 15 games and doing what Spurs do - lose in the final AND finish bottom half.
Our squad isn't big enough or good enough to try and win this. You can beat your chest and act like a proud fan all you like, but you must know after the other night we don't have a reserve team good enough and we can't risk the first team.

If we win it, I wouldn’t give a shit about being mocked. Are you seriously worried about being mocked for winning a European trophy? Or a Domestic trophy such as the league cup which also carries little kudos? Of course the league needs to be a priority, but would you be happy getting knocked out of this, the FA cup, the league cup and finishing mid table? Because that’s every bit as likely as your scenario if the players treat this tournament as somehow beneath them like some of our fans seem to be. Winning matches is no bad thing and I’d much rather be mocked for winning a trophy than be mocked for getting knocked out of a competition. Whichever team wins this, I bet they celebrate it.

His job is to manage the squad, set priorities for the season, allocate resources appropriately across 4 different competitions.
Priority no.1 is the PL and qualification for the CL. There is no CL place for the winner of this joke of a cup so winning it gives us nothing of substance.
Priority 2 should be a domestic cup. Min number of games compared to conf league in order to win.
The only thing the conf league is useful for is giving game time to back up players.
