I get what you’re saying, but people handle things differently. What one person shrugs off, another spirals from, and pretending everyone has the same mental armour just because they’re well paid isn’t how real life works. I don’t think any of them are casting themselves as victims. That’s your take, based on the idea that high wages mean they should absorb absolutely anything that’s thrown their way. That’s entitlement in itself. Paying for a ticket doesn’t give anyone a free pass to unload whatever they like, any more than it would in any other job.

They apologise plenty, we just tend not to accept it and instead turn into experts on body language and tone. Some of them aren’t good enough, sure, but that’s a recruitment issue. It’s not their fault they’re here, being picked, and sent out to play. Critique them all you like, I’ve no issue with that, I just don’t think booing them during a match or every time they touch the ball does anything other than make the person doing it feel better. It’s not about righteousness, it’s just common sense if we’re all supposed to be pulling in the same direction for ninety minutes.

Yes, players in the past dealt with horrific abuse, and some handled it with incredible strength. Others didn’t, and the outcomes for people like Fashanu and Speed show exactly why mental resilience isn’t uniform. None of that means modern players are superhuman or that fans have licence to behave however they like. You can call it pretentious if you want, but for me it’s just basic logic: turning on your own mid-game doesn’t help them, doesn’t help the team, and doesn’t change results. If anything, it pushes people into their shell.

Anyway, this has been done to death. We’re clearly not going to agree, and that’s fine. I’m not angry about the booing, I just don’t think it works and nothing you’ve said convinces me otherwise.

How you feeling sweetheart?

It's not "my take".

It is also nothing to do with the wages they earn. I referenced that to juxtapose Porro and Vicario's current situation against the situation faced by players like Cyrille Regis, in the 1970's, on far less remuneration.

My take on Vicario and Porro portraying themselves as victims is based on reports currently leaking out of the Spurs camp.

It is your take though, because you’re leaning on leaked reports and assumptions about their mindset rather than anything they have actually said. You referenced wages to draw a comparison, but that comparison is the whole point I’m pushing back on. Some players handle abuse in a way that looks strong from the outside, others spiral. That doesn’t make them victims, it just makes them human. You’re reading “playing the victim” into it because you think that earning big money means they should be able to swallow anything that comes their way.

I juxtaposed the wages of the modern players against the wages of players from the 70's who had to deal with real abuse and injustice but chose to deal with it in a different way, to members of the current Spurs squad, in respect of how they reacted to vocal cricism or abuse.

You are choosing to conflate what I said into a false scenario where because the supporters pay high ticket prices they can say what they like to the players.

I have never said that, or words to that effect.

That is your own invention.

If you believe my inference was along those lines then quote it.

I’m feeling absolutely fine, thanks. I don’t need to jump up and down like a petulant kid because a player didn’t follow my imaginary controller inputs, nor do I need to fire off a toddler-level gif to make my point. If booing makes you feel entitled and powerful for a few seconds, crack on, but don’t mistake that for some grand statement of standards. I’ll stick to supporting the team without the tantrums treacle.

You did reference it, though. You said “The people who are booing have been paying top dollar to watch this charade for 6 consecutive seasons now.” That is, in plain terms, using price to justify the booing. Then you doubled down by saying “These millionaire footballers are actually a fucking disgrace. Cyrille Regis, and many other professional footballers, have had to deal with genuine injustice without the benefits and rewards that many modern players now take for granted.”

Those are actual quotes you said and that exactly the comparison I was responding to.

So no, I’m not inventing anything.

People paying top dollar for tickets is a statement of fact.

Are you saying booing should be banned?

How else can supporters express their disatisfaction?

Is it not reasonable to boo these pricks under any circumstances in your imaginary utopian dreamworld of cheering on mediocrity and failure?

I also stated, in an earlier post, that booing at half time and full time is acceptable for this reason.

My observations were in response to your observations on how booing will not make these players play any better.

These players have a choice.

They could try harder to prove those booing wrong.

My observations, regarding the remuneration of footballers, was to demonstrate how footballers who earned less in the 70's used criticism / abuse from the crowd to motivate themselves to do better.

Cyrille Regis confirmed this anecdotally in the video I posted.

It was you who claimed that it was impossible to motivate anyone by shouting at them or abusing them.

It was also you who claimed I had stated that if you pay for your ticket you can say what you want.

I never said anything like that.

That was the logic the people who abused Cyrille Regis in the 70's were using.

Booing Vicario's shit clearance is not the same thing as what Cyrille had to deal with on far less wages.

Just out of curiosity; did you take part in non competative sports days at your primary school?

Prizes for everyone?

In fairness even Thomas Frank stated that he had no problem with people/ the paying public booing the whole team at the end of the game . It happens at La Scala and at the Cannes Film Festival ( even though no-ones actually paid to get in ) .

It was the singling out of a particular player after a calamitous ricket that he was , rightly, opposed to .

I was at a game at WHL, in the 1990's, when the late Jutin Edinburgh was booed while he was waiting to come on to the field of play as a substitute.

There was a lot of booing.

It was loud.

Justin smiled; shrugged his shoulders and got on with it.

2025 and a players meeting has allegedley been convened to kick back against supporters who boo.

It's all so surreal.

I hate booing anyone OTHER than the enemy... Even then it's a bit like; yeah, Boo.. What you gonna do ?

It's a noise, a vocal sound... It's not repulsive language, racist or offensive in any way other than it's a rotten noise!

Fans who feel the need to boo their own players are as self-entitled as the players who choose to let it affect them!

Maybe creating a hostile atmosphere WILL help the players, as it'll feel more like an away game where 95% of the crowd ARE against them...

...and we've done alright away from home!

What has ice cube got to do with this? Jeering has been going on for ages, not since yesterday so the shit football is nothing new. Also we're not talking exclusively about season ticket holders.

OK; should they have demanded a refund on their One Hotspur membership in a strongly worded letter to Charrington?

Ice cube is present because he is an option when you type 'what' into the gif search.

Anything else?

These guys need to be very careful they are digging themselves a bloody big hole. We really see a separation of the entitled old guard and some hungry youngsters exactly like what happened under Poch with Bentaleb Kane and Mason actively splitting with Kaboul Adebayor ect.

Should they have left the stadium when they got the urge to boo Vicario or waited until their season ticket runs out?

Yes, stop going to games. It's easier than crying about how much travel, lunch and drinking has cost you on top of the game

This overrated prick wants to worry about why he has a pass completion rate of 74.1% this season.

For context here are our other defenders / defensive midfielders…..

VDV 90.8
Romero 88.9
Danso 89.8
Udogie 85.6
Spence 82.2
Bentancur 85.9
Palhinha 83.0

Porro is less that 75%!! He thinks he’s David Beckham, but his right foot isn’t as great as he thinks. He panics under pressure, goes long too often, doesn’t overlap enough, tries speculative long balls and crosses and is an average defender.

He think because he gets emotional in front of the fans after a decent tackle that we should laud him.

Overrated and not good enough for the top level.

The fact that he went at Bergvall who alongside Kudus was the player pushing us on 2nd half says it all…..

Give this bloke a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
