50 days without a manager, truly incredible. Levy deserves a round of applause, even his most ardent critics surely didn't think he was capable of something as shoddy as this. He has outdone himself.

Every single day that passes we are smearing an extra layer of shit on ourselves that will put off anybody decent.
He is saving on wages, I honestly don't think he has any intention of hiring anyone until after the Euros.

Annnnny day now.

I’ve just heard a new, young exciting manager has been identified by Levy; Antonio Godot I think his name is - apparently will be announced today, or maybe tomorrow.

At this point, as much as it pains me, Rafa Benitez might be the safest hands we could ask for.

Realign your minds to where we are and where we want to be. It's the middle of a Euros so Incomings of quality unless outside of Europe will be difficult within the next month. We need a manager that is experienced and can steady the ship for the next 12 months and Benitez is a proven war horse IMO. Some of the names are a really big risk in a window we can't be guaranteed the squad rebuild will be finished by. Benitez will work with whatever he's given and not complain about it, he will get the team playing football efficiently again and our team is capable of Top 6.

The current Top 4 are a way clear of us and on paper buying whoever we want still won't guarantee we catch up next season, it's going to take a couple of season of steady football with new players before we can discuss competing again.

I really think Benitez will deal with the pressure, he will get us playing good football if he gets the right players to play it.

Kane is most probably gone, a new manager coming in right now isn't getting reigns of the transfers so I just think he could be much less of a risk than some of the other names. Do not be surprised if he came in and shocked a lot of people either he's really a decent manager when looking at what is likely available to us.

Kill me now that it's come to this but Benitez could be the type that commands respect yet isn't such a character to upset players the way Jose did.

Nice to know that Levy is planning on swindling any new players, and not just the supporters with the window opening up.

Spurs: You should really join us, we're playing in Europe next year.

Potential new signing: Maybe, who is the manager?

Spurs: We're bringing in someone who's managerial approach matches our historical style of free-flowing, attacking football.

Potential new signing: Great, where do I sign?

New manager arrives August 13th:

Who, am I kidding? We're not signing anyone...

Leicester signing Soumare and Edouard.

Villa signing Buendia and enquiring for Ward-Prowse.

Tottenham getting rejected by managers, not linked to players and falling further behind teams all at the same time.

We've gone from the brink of glory, a Champions League final, to being further away than we've ever been in the space of 2 years.

I really hope you are alone here.

I missed the Edouard deal, for 18m is what I see?

Why the hell do we not do that? Makes sense whether we keep or sell Kane.

Fucking so stupid that we are missing out on these, and other, deals.

Outside the top 3 or 4 sides the premier league is closing up and unless we get our act together sharpish i think we could be finishing anywhere between 6th and 12th for the forseeable.

Fair point but its pretty clear we haven't been at a crossroads like this for years. Not just the manager or the 10 or 11 players we need to sell but Kane as well.

That is untrue.
We were in the exact situation last summer.
We just decided to ignore the inevitable truth.

And we were very much in crossroads summer before that, after loss in CL final.

Neither of those summers were less crutial than current one. People just like to tell themselves that they are witnessing something more dramatical and extraordinary. Its kind of like everyone think that their baby/puppy is the cutest in the universe :D .

I’d take Potter - gets his teams playing excellent football and could maybe bring Ben White with him.

My preference is still either ETH or Gallardo (young and gets River Plate playing nice football), however.

In both those summers we had a manager so at least had the potential to have a full summer of making moves, now we have already seen multiple players that we should have interest on sold, while we twiddle our thumbs.

In both those summers our star striker did not go public with a desire to leave the club so at the very least we knew we had him to bail us out when we did nothing in the transfer window.

And two summers ago guys like Winks, Sissoko, Aurier, Davies, Sanchez, Moura had a little more value than they do currently. And fans had the faint hope that Levy wasn't so stupid to keep them for two more years because that would be crazy.

Dont agree at all. Kane wasn't potentially going the last 2 summers. We also had managers in place. I dont think its extraordinary, we've been here before a few times, 2004 with Arnesen when we bought a new team, 2008 when we lost Keane and Berbatov, 2013 when we sold VDV and Bale. Much more similar to those than recent years.

As much as I have hated Levy for years the one thing that gave me faint hope is that it seemed like he wanted us to be top 4, if only so he could pocket the CL money. He often fucked it up getting there but I always did think he wanted it and would try in his own deluded way to get us there.

Now, with how this summer has gone it is hard to think the same thing. This summer so far has been truly baffling. I have also maintained that as much as I hate Levy we are still clearly one of the top 6, if not higher clubs, but with the recent moves from teams like Leicester and Villa, as well as the usual stuff from what should be our actual rivals, it is getting harder to think that we aren't now falling way behind.
