Why is Poteer better than Fonseka?

I'm not personally claiming to know anything about this guy other than what I'm reading, but it would appear that he has some similarities with Potter: ranking as the 12th-best attacking side in Europe when looking at non-penalty expected goals per game. For context, Tottenham have been the 30th-best side in Europe, and just the eighth-best in the Premier League.

Tottenham are in advanced talks with Paulo Fonseca to become the club's next head coach.

The Athletic understands the former Roma manager is the preferred choice of incoming general manager Fabio Paratici. It is understood the former Juventus sporting director is in talks with Fonseca in Italy before flying to London, where Paratici is due to be formally announced.

Fonseca left Roma in seventh place in Serie A at the end of the 2020-21 season.

How did Fonseca perform at Roma?
Fonseca walked into a tough situation at Roma. The club had just missed out on the Champions League and faced a difficult restructure in light of some expensive mistakes in the transfer market under Monchi.

Owner Jim Pallotta then began takeover talks with the Friedkin Group which stalled when the pandemic hit and re-started over the summer.

A vacuum also opened up at the club when Monchi's successor Gianluca Petrachi was dismissed from his post which left Fonseca vulnerable. All the uncertainty did not make for an easy job.

Roma played some slick football and reached a European semi-final under the Portuguese but his record in big Serie A games and missing out on the top four again persuaded Roma's new owners to break with what they inherited.

I like to look at underlying numbers, but whereas Brighton's numbers were good enough to finish 5th instead of 16th in the PL, Roma's were good enough for them to finish 6th instead of 7th.

That being said, I sure hope this guy comes out of nowhere and has a us challenging for top 4 and a trophy in his first season. Shit as the appointment might sound, I want him to succeed and make us all eat humble pie.

For the record I haven't a strong take either way, but the argument would be that Potter drills a good PL defence. Didn't often concede more than one in the league this season, plenty of clean sheets, few chances conceded and low quality chances conceded.

The case for Potter was people watching a lot of Brighton, and seeing the patterns of their play in attack and defence, and thinking "Hey, if we had a coach drilling Kane, Son, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Reguilon and Bergwijn to do this stuff I could see it going pretty well.". I don't know if people were right or wrong, I guess we'll find out over the next few years when we see what Potter achieves in the game.
 
From supposedly aiming for Pochettino and Conte last week to nailing down this guy this week.
We'd be all over the laugh at Woolwich thread if it was them

What I don't understand is why people are raging at this potential appointment, someone who they know fuck all about (I know fuck all about him) but would rather take a guy that got beat by him who had a superior squad and a settled Club (not having DoF fired and new owners) or want Potter because he's got great xG but not as good an xG as the guy they are raging about!?

Seems and really flawed logic to rage about.

Because no-one trusts Levy. They think it’s the cheapest appointment possible for a guy who will work with no money. It’s not comparative to Potter, many fans have watched Brighton all season with average quality players mostly playing a great style of football with a mean defence and thought he looks fucking good, that could work and he knows the Prem.

This guy may work or he maybe another Santini, the risk level is large to say the least.

Yes!!! I completely get this logic, it's one of the reasons I absolutely wouldn't shit the bed if we hired Potter.

BUT, if this is the logic for Potter, then why the fuck isn't it the logic for Fonseka (who I know nothing about) but his xG blows Potter's out of the park!!!
