yes, the italian coaches adore to play 3-5-2 in Serie A ,are plenty of teams playing this system... with 3 CB ... even Radu Dragusin played for Genoa like this , and he shinned there playing like that , this was the reason for this transfer in England... Imagine our manager played VDV at LB when Udogie got injured instead of :
Davies vs Woolwich resulting in him getting destroyed by Saka for the 2nd goal.
Emerson vs Liverpool resulting in him being at fault for 2 goals.
Skipp vs Burnley resulting in him being at fault for their goal.
It only took Ange all those games (oh and Chavksi where Emerson was atrocious) to realise the sensible option was to play a player that has comfortably played LB before In the LB position and our new CB signing (that he wanted) at CB.
It only took injuries to 2 lb's and shit performances in 4 games to do it.

Yes would have been interesting to see the difference in results. Think we would have at least snagged an extra point or 2 in thise games. Shows how big a difference structurally 1 or 2 players can make
