Sometimes , just sometimes weirdly I’d like us to go down just so some people would finally understand the gravitas of what would happen .

These players , many on our books are basically a business in themselves , personal sponsors , staff , management, image rights etc in a very short career window . If you think they’d stay . Relegation changes the power balance immediately , the club doesn’t have the clout , financially and in statue to hold the cards

Relegation turns transfer requests from “conflict” into “process.”

There is no process to simply cancel a contract from the player side. Just as Kulusevski’s contract stops us not paying him while he is injured or Ndombele when he decides he cannot be bothered so a long term deal means a player can only leave if the club agrees a deal. If our players values are not met they won’t go irrelevant if they have sponsors or not, nobody forced them to sign a legally binding contract. Unless they have a relegation release clause which apparently they do not there isn’t a legal mechanism for their leaving. Obviously if clubs pays a value we deem acceptable they will go but that is not for the player to determine.

This has nothing to do with the gravitas of what would happen, I think it would be an absolute disaster for us to go down - but it wouldn't give contracted players any more power than they have now, as they are under contract, and we of all clubs have demonstrated before that we will hold a player to a contract for as long as we want to if we so choose. Relegation doesn't change contract law.

But just for info (as tbh I'm absolutely bemused by your apparent inability to understand how contracts work), let's say I'm a player with 3 years left on my contract and I want to leave because we get relegated and my wages are reducing by 50%, I tell the club I want to leave, they say "you're going nowhere unless we get £50m for you, and no one has bid that, so as you are under contract here for another 3 years, you're staying for this season at least". In that scenario, what do you think the player or agent can / would say? (Bearing in mind that the Kane brothers have already tried to 'cheat' this once, and utterly failed, having to wait the extra whole season that Levy wanted). How on earth has the power balance changed? It hasn't at all - they have no power.

We have a huge squad and no Europe so a lot to sell.

Kane wanted to leave, the club made him stay until IT was ok with him leaving. Same with Modric, Berba, I'm sure there are plenty of others. Do you seriously not remember Kane basically going on strike for a week or so, his brother saying Levy had broken a "gentleman's agreement" ( 😂 ), then Kane coming back into the fold and playing that entire season before the club agreeing that he could leave at the end of it? Did you sleep through all of that? :/ 😛
He still left...

I personally think we would keep roughly the below with Vuskovic and Simons on loan out then buy a few to sort out wing, DM, full back and striker.

A lot of what you say has merit. But there is another reality that ENIC’s PR do not want us to see too widely published. Even in the EFL Championship Tottenham’s revenue will be higher than around 50% of the Premier League clubs, so any panic narrative will only exist if ENIC want that to be the narrative.

They can also invest or get investors at any time because we are such a huge asset. If they go austerity it will be entirely their choice.

What is the rationale for Vuskovic and Simons loans out?
Either we get the transfer fee in to put towards our return to the PL or they stay and contribute to that return.
A loan doesn't benefit us at all.

If we want to keep our younger talents and they really don’t want to play EL you can always offer a new longer contract with guaranteed of a loan. Selling them now to me seems foolish when both will be more valuable in the future probably. Of course we could simply force them to play and they would have to but squad dynamics if a player isn that interested (see Romero).

I would hope that the club waves the 50% reduction for Gray, Bergvall, etc.

We'd get rid of the majority of our higher salaries naturally - Romero, VDV, Vic, etc.

Give the youngsters 100% and plenty of game time.

Relegated or not, next season will be a breath of fresh air when you think of it like that.

If the club are smart (I know!) the top youngsters will get their 50% reductions canned and new contracts given. Telling them we will wave the reduction would show commitment and loyalty from our side.
