Sunderland didn’t SPLURGE. Bought a lot of players at similar level. Manager done a brilliant job. Let’s wait till next season. Leeds finished 9th in their first season back with Bielsa. Almost went down the next season and then went in the third. Teams get to know how they play and that causes a problem. The good news if we come straight back up is that we will be financially far better off than half the Prem sides still anyway - what would be needed is someone competent to do what Sunderland did - ruthlessly cut players who cannot step up and splurge on better replacements.
The biggest difference needs to occur in the boardroom. It’s not curtains if we’re down for one season though, we’re a financial juggernaut compared to 95% of English football clubs
When I was younger I would have cared a lot more. Now?
I’ve lost so much empathy for the club the players etc I won’t be that bothered.
If we go down I will go and watch the odd game if they sort out their pricing.
But generally I spend my “football” money and time on my dog and short breaks these days.
So it’s just not having the same impact it would have once upon a time.
Going to see people like Roberts, Perryman and Ossie talk about their time at the club is always good. I feel that players like Dawson, Ledley and even O ‘Hara would have a similar feel for the club.
This current bunch? I’m not so sure. But I think the fans also have a lot of contempt and disdain for the players. So maybe it’s a circular thing.
These players have just won us a European cup, you’d think there would be more love for them.
Maybe it’s just modern football?
ENIC may not have the brains to get us back up I agree. If we go down, the best thing they could do is a strike a deal with a new owner that would give ENIC a payout / further payout when we get back up. In other words, give another party control, but align economic interest with coming back up. It's possible to do, but ENIC/Levy etc endlessly fancy themselves as being "good at it". Which they evidently aren't. Relegation will shock them. And mid-table champo even more so. They need a Plan B which isn't them continuing to own. They need to think of an exit that gets them most of the value, recognises they can't run the club, and prevents things getting worse.

Are there any players who Sunderland signed who our support would have thought was a good signing.
The Keeper and ??.
Totally agree.de zerbi won’t be our manager next season in the championship , he’ll kick off in the summer , fall out with the board and be on his way
Don't think 2 wins will be enough, Spam and Forest have enough about them to pick up points and Leeds have the best run-in fixtures. We would have to win 3 from 6 games and we're not even looking like winning 1. It's over.I don't think we'll get relegated. There is too much talent in the squad.
Two wins might be enough and 3 wins definitely will be.
I didn't get to watch the latest game and by all accounts we were not very good.
But we did have 11 shots on goal with 7 on target. That is a vast improvement on previous games.
It’s easy to comment after the event. Did anybody think they would do as well before the season started.Yes but the KPI for both Sunderland and their supporters was staying in the EPL ; if you could have guaranteed they finish 17th before a ball was kicked; they’d have bitten your hand off . They’ve surpassed their expectations by being sensible and competent wrt to achieving their realistic goals .
We haven’t.
They are the key games - 1 loss in 17 years against Neverton, no home loss in 25 years against Leeds and we’ve won all 5 of the previous. Absolute shart record against Wolves though.I keep running the simulation and although I think it is unlikely if we can beat Wolves and Leeds and Everton last game if
Season I have us staying up most times, easier said
Than done however if we can’t beat these teams to stay up then we deserve what we get !

This wasn't how it played out for Villa.Let’s say this happens , we bounce straight back up and now we are stuck with loads of championship level players and get battered again in the PL ….
I get we will need players for the championship but the worry is we get stuck with more cloggers
Do you think anybody is going to buy Solanke ??I've tried to remain pretty optimistic over the last few months around Relegation, but after yesterday's performance i've accepted that we're probably the most likely to go down out of us, West Ham, Forest and Leeds.
We'll no doubt have to offload a lot of the top earners (which might end up being a good thing imo) - question is, is the team below good enough to come straight back up?

After 7 games we had 14 pts. No one saw this coming.
With the right coach, yes it is.I've tried to remain pretty optimistic over the last few months around Relegation, but after yesterday's performance i've accepted that we're probably the most likely to go down out of us, West Ham, Forest and Leeds.

Yes. He's just been in the England squad. Solanke would attract PL interest, no question. We won't get our money back tho. More like £40m.
Aye ; they spent 3 seasons down there ; brought in 12 players the summer they were promoted and clung on by their teeth ; finishing 17th in their first year back .
They spluttered under Stevie G and finally turned the corner when they appointed Unai .
The Championship isn’t the day-trip to Disneyland Paris that some on here are making it out to be .
