Sunderland didn’t SPLURGE. Bought a lot of players at similar level. Manager done a brilliant job. Let’s wait till next season. Leeds finished 9th in their first season back with Bielsa. Almost went down the next season and then went in the third. Teams get to know how they play and that causes a problem.
Are there any players who Sunderland signed who our support would have thought was a good signing.

I think it is a both a reflection on how the modern game’s gone plus a few things that are specific to our Club .

I've tried to remain pretty optimistic over the last few months around Relegation, but after yesterday's performance i've accepted that we're probably the most likely to go down out of us, West Ham, Forest and Leeds.
We'll no doubt have to offload a lot of the top earners (which might end up being a good thing imo) - question is, is the team below good enough to come straight back up?

Yes but the KPI for both Sunderland and their supporters was staying in the EPL ; if you could have guaranteed they finish 17th before a ball was kicked; they’d have bitten your hand off . They’ve surpassed their expectations by being sensible and competent wrt to achieving their realistic goals .

Don't think 2 wins will be enough, Spam and Forest have enough about them to pick up points and Leeds have the best run-in fixtures. We would have to win 3 from 6 games and we're not even looking like winning 1. It's over.
It’s easy to comment after the event. Did anybody think they would do as well before the season started.
After 7 games we had 14 pts. No one saw this coming.
They are the key games - 1 loss in 17 years against Neverton, no home loss in 25 years against Leeds and we’ve won all 5 of the previous. Absolute shart record against Wolves though.
From the reverse fixtures this season we took 8 points - I think we will need 1 better.

These people have sold off the top goal scorers, for 3 consecutive seasons.
A 50% wage reduction guarenteed with relegation; should see off the remaining top earners, from an entity who have been progressively reducing the wage bill, and supporter expectation level, since 2019, while paying directors of the club more than double what the very best clubs, who actually win trophies consistently, pay while charging the highest ticket prices.

As I said; Sunderland aimed low ( staying up ) relatively speaking and surpassed their expectations. I’ve said before that surviving in the Prem and thereafter establishing yourself is the most difficult task in modern football .
We didn’t have the same approach; we didn’t say too six or bust , we didn’t say let’s just aim for mid-table mediocrity ( safe from any excitement at either end of the table ) and we didn’t batten down the hatches and aim for 40 points by mid April.
We just wafted around hoping that the rigorous recruitment policy by Vinai and Lange that brought us TF ; would magically just “ achieve things “ .

Aye ; they spent 3 seasons down there ; brought in 12 players the summer they were promoted and clung on by their teeth ; finishing 17th in their first year back .
They spluttered under Stevie G and finally turned the corner when they appointed Unai .

No it’s hard but the key will be the manager and the leadership. If we keep De Zerbi we have by far the best manager in that league not Steve G so we will have a football ‘Philosophy’. The other factor is retaining a core of good players after sales. Newcastle kept half their squad and came back, Villa sold everyone almost and spent 3 years. Keep De Zerbi and back him.
