Best guess, Les Allen,Maurice Norman, Dave McKay, Bill Brown, Danny Blanchflower, Jimmy Greaves.

Along came Christian Gross and a relegation battle with Everton, Bolton and Barnsley
was doing some DIY at home and listening to the footie on the radio. Drawing 1-1 at Barnsley when Vega got himself sent off. I really thought that might be it.

Earlier in the season I was at WHL for a very narrow 1-0 win over Bolton where our keeper (Bårdsen?) made an amazing save.

Awful times. Us fans of 45 yrs plus deserve massive kudos for keeping the flame alive after SurAllan and Slaphead

1997-98 is to date my worst season as a fan. Really expected us to kick on with Sir Les and Ginola even after Sheringham's exit. In my youthful naivety I blamed that horrible Pony kit that itched like mad, although I have warmed to the navy away shirt - something Pony always got correct during their short contract IMO.

I forget much of the season now but fully remember the very dark mood surrounding it. The 6-2 win against Wimbledon might be in my top 10 matches of all time though. Was so happy when we saw off relegation and getting to see the Ginola and Klinsmann combo click. Rare treat in a very bleak year.

On the pitch after the game.
The only time i can remember myself doing that in the thousand+ Spurs games i've been.

Edit : It wasn't that one, it was the Semi-final in '99. :disdain:

It's thanks to Henry Hotspur Henry Hotspur 's post below that i remembered properly. :freund:

We didn't win that match 1-0. We lost that match 3-2. One of Gerry Francis's last games in charge. It was a game we could have won but lost and it was followed by a 1-0 home defeat to Leeds before the fateful 4-0 defeat at Anfield that led to Gerry's resignation. Along came Christian Gross and a relegation battle with Everton, Bolton and Barnsley ensued.
Thanks for destroying my childhood

Second paragraph sums up the situation and then the mood after. That part of south London was my manor and there were 6-8 of us on the day. Loads of Spurs in the pubs. Ground must’ve been 7/8 Tottenham.

Thatcher was sent off I think - then floodgates and relief! I didn’t make it onto the pitch that day but did in the LC semi there the following season - my last game for a few years as I went to live in Australia. By the time I came back God was muddling through the best he could with a decidedly average squad, including Ben Thatcher!!!
