Can't really be surprised about the new contract. He was our best player alongside Kane... Pre kane leaving.

He's had a torrid time the last 18 months mostly injuries but also his self inflicted issues.

However he is still one of our most experienced players and one of only a few who has genuine top pedigree.

Needs to really carry the recent form through to end of season and get back to his best.

He's younger and better than Bissouma, and while they've each had an off field issue Betancur's transgression was honestly adjudication harsher than it deserved while Biss' indicates potential ongoing problems.

Think the club feels the same, which is why it's Betancur with talks opening up first.
 
He’s just as careless with the ball, as we saw Saturday, more so than Bissouma when we are under pressure and playing out from the back and even less dynamic without the ball than Bissouma.

Should be first out the door.
 
Big fan of his but he’s not been great during the team’s recent downturn in form. However we’d be stupid to get rid.

Next season’s midfield is going to be very different depending on whether or not we’re in Europe.

Think Gray, Bergvall, Madders and Sarr are assured of a spot. But I’ve always liked what little I’ve seen of Devine ans feel we should give him a shot. With Kulu (and Bentancur) it’s suddenly looking a bit crowded if we don’t have Europe. And that’s before we sign the number 6 we’re all craving (personally I reckon we take a punt on Cardoso given the deal we’ve got)
 
Biss is such an odd case.
Truly believe he the physical skills to be a great midfielder.

But even in his good games, he seems to just float.

Bervall seems to be on the path to turning into what Biss should be.

As for Bentancur, he is typically a “6” on the rating scale post injury most games. Pretty decent, but not a game changer. Not sure we’ll ever see the guy he was before injury again.

We def need a stronger 6 next year and let Gray grow into the role over time.
