Very happy with him so far, clear upgrade on anyone we have. Sometimes wants slightly too much time but I think he’s still getting used to the intensity of English football
Agree, think hes definitely got the ability but needs some coaching to know when to unleash it in the PL (i.e. Not when we are 5 yards from own penalty area against intense high press)

Quite the contrary to my mind, I actually think that we need to trust him to try these things when he’s under the press (see the start of the great Kane chance that Ederson saved) as that’s how you beat a press. Just booting it leads to the ball coming back at you, and playing it safe just leaves one of your teammates under pressure instead.

Now I’d definitely buy that he should learn to choose his moments more, but I’m more than happy for him to try skill to get out of being pressed as it sets us up to attack, and ultimately our system has three centre backs begging him even if he does lose the ball.

Yep fair enough, I can see it both ways.

I just think he's playing a dangerous game if these tricks don't come off and it leads to goals.

Hopefully he has the quality so that it's a rare occasion that it doesn't work as he plans.

Would have been a brilliant goal that wouldn't it. Brilliant from Bentancur and the sort of midfield play we've been crying out for. Really like the look of him so far.
The idea (widely promulgated by people who supposedly watched him all the time)that he was the Uruguayan Winks and totally non progressive...Well it is clearly utter crap. He has made Winks obsolete in very short order. Massive upgrade. Need one for Hojbjerg now.

Pass forward, follow the pass- we shouldn't be amazed at this but we've been starved of basic play like this in our midfield for ages.

Also looks like we're now passing into space ahead of the man as opposed to passing it to feet which was a massive annoyance of mine.
I suggested this when the duo arrived: our squad had (in parts) become so bad in terms of composure on the ball, etc, that I thought the snobishness about Juve 'cast offs' was harsh.

Fact is that even players who were deemed surplus by a team like that would readily be able to inject some quality into our play. Our quality in midfield had dropped so much.

i actually think the best thing he done in that move was the little lay off to sessegnon, so that he could then go off and be an option for him, teasing little ball that drew walker out of position so he could go in behind him. very nice

Watching the first half he was caught in possesion and 'hurried' on several occasions, remember this was City, the team that presses and harasses midfield players more than any other side in the EPL. In the second half Bentancur made the adjustment and seemed that half second faster. That fast learning is a sign of true quality - Partey at Woolwich has taken nearly a year to get up to speed, and he's still shit.

Agreed - imagine the coward cunts Winks or Peh doing that - would just pass it back to Hugo and stand and point like the worthless oxygen thieves they've always been. OUT NOW!
If you obviously paid some more attention... you would have seen that it was Højbjerg - knowing where Bentancur was in that tight position - who, instead of "just passing it back to Hugo" stepped over the ball so Bentancur could get it and start the attack. Far from a cowardly move in that position in fact.
And anyone who denies that Højbjerg lifted up his foot consciously either has very bad eyesight or believe the ball circumvented the laws of physic and went straight through his foot 😁

He was literally a training cone in that move

You just said in your previous statement that Hojbjerg would have "passed the ball back to Hugo" if he was in the position of Bentencur- ignoring the fact that Højbjerg was in that position and did something else than what you claimed he would do. Now you are side-tracking from your original statement. Hard to face the truth, isn't it
I know you will NEVER ever want to see anything positive about either Højbjerg or Wink no matter what. You are obsessed with negative drivel about both of them and you have dig yourself down into a rabbit hole of obsessive negativity.

He wasn't - they played through him - they bypassed him as they knew he'd fuck it up
