Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Uruguay have games on 2/9 (Friendly), 7/9, 10/9.
Then 11/10 and 16/10.

Bentancur has been banned for four matches and handed a $16,000 (£12,118) fine.

As a result, meaning he will be missing for Uruguay's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador. Bentancur will be available to feature for his country once again in November when they host Colombia.

So he's got a break in September and October from international football - should be a lot more fresh/less tired for Spurs matches !

Wonder what the sanction will be. At least the date for the response is after the Scum game. Need as full a squad to choose from as possible for that.

“After speaking to the FA football.london understands that match-based sanctions of six to 12 games are recommended to regulatory commissions for almost all 'aggravated breaches' of FA Rule E3 that are a first offence by individual participants.”

Fuck a duck 6-12 games. That's going to be a blow. Can't see how it's defended or not upheld to be honest. The evidence is right there in front of your eyes.

Just a reminder that our club decided to look past a blatantly racist remark in order to suspend a player that did a fucking balloon. Not only that but our great manager, in all his wisdom continuously kept bringing up how Bissouma has been a bad bad boy and needs to gain his and the teams trust back all whilst the geezer making a racist comment is allowed to play with no consequence from his action by the club.

I think if he says he was joking about his team mate who already accepted his apology, it might be a mitigating factor.

He deserves a ban but he might be able to get away with the one game ban that Bernardo Silva got for that “friendly” racist joke about Mendy a few years ago.

The silly bastard can’t complain if he gets more than that though.

Didn’t the club say he’d been disciplined and would be sent on a racism awareness course? If the incident had happened during the league season and not the summer break then he might have been suspended for a match too.

Did they? that's even worse then. Admitting one of your own players has been racist and thinking a "racism awareness course" is an appropriate punishment whilst suspending another player for a balloon and making it an even bigger issue by continuously scolding him in interviews whilst not even mentioning the other guy.

EDIT:
I just looked and Bentancur was not disciplined at all. In fact, the racism awareness course wasn't even specific to him.

"Following a comment from Rodrigo Bentancur in an interview video clip and the player’s subsequent public apology, the Club has been providing assistance in ensuring a positive outcome on the matter. This will include further education for all players in line with our diversity, equality and inclusion objectives. We fully support that our captain Sonny feels that he can draw a line under the incident and that the team can focus on the new season ahead. We are extremely proud of our diverse, global fanbase and playing squads. Discrimination of any kind has no place at our Club, within our game or within wider society."

Probably too busy vilifying the balloon inhaler tbf.

I'm struggling to understand how this is a PL enforceable issue?

He was on international duty, between seasons, talking to Uruguay TV. Son has also ended the chat anyway.

It wasn't good what he said, not at all.
But can the FA actually act here given the incident had nothing to do with them?

However - is there an issue brewing at Spurs with behaviour and self discipline?

Bissouma's needless red off the back of almost a yellow every game
Bissouma and the balloons
Romero reds
Various players yellows totting up
Bentancur basically becoming bad superman from superman 3
There's probably more.

Mate, they more than likely knew an official investigation/charge was all imminent...... I certainly didn't think we'd heard the last of it.

(He's still got shit in the pipeline from the fan ruckus too.)

....I'd expect further comment from the club now.

Meanwhile:

.....Ange hasn't "continually scolded" Biss. He has answered questions about the incident when asked.

.....And as someone else said; how the fuck does Fernández escape charge?????

Initially assumed it was the bottle throwing incident he was facing a ban for. Either way, if this was on the cards, surely the club should have had the foresight to include Spence in the EL squad over Bentancur, though maybe that weakens your case when trying to plead against a lengthy ban. Even so, his behaviour in two silly incidents, and at his age, deserves a punishment.

I’m all for a ban of Bentancur. Sure it will hurt us but an example needs to be set here.

Given the context of the incident, I think it’s fair to say it was stupid and ignorant rather than trying to deliberately aggravate and therefore I suspect it will be the minimum 6 matches.

We have to our house in order though with this sort of thing - set an example
