I can see the argument but my gut still says it's a yellow. Certainly not the 'done' thing to go in on a GK like that regardless, so even though they're usually a protected class it's just our fucking luck that the one time a referee doesn't go harsher with the punishment it's against us.
Aside from the fact a draw was a decent result for this fixture, I'm just thanking our lucky stars that neither Vicario (from that challenge) nor Maddison (from his knee going the wrong way) picked up injuries. We'd really be in the shit without them. Fingers crossed that Johnson's hamstring isn't too bad.

Just as well for le arse, it was more red than yellow but not enough for VAR to intervene using the 'clear and obvious error' benchmark, if they had asked the ref to look at the monitor I think Nketiah would have been on his way.
I prefer to accept your opinion rather than the pundits, who, btw also thought the penalty should not have been awarded.......enter the monitor.

Just a couple of observations from me.
1. I didn't feel Woolwich had anything really. All the fawning guff over them in the first half was down to us. Action area was our end cos we were playing it about there. Yes the press caught us a couple of times but not once did I feel we were gonna be carved open. VDV was, and I don't use this word lightly, orgasmic.
2. The Udogie v Saka battle was tipped in Saka's favour by the yellow card but I don't think Saka really trouble Udogie. Saka couldn't out pace him. Udogie was showing him down the line and looked like he was strolling to keep with him.
3. I really don't get the Saka celebration. Firstly, don't give it the big one after a deflected goal and a pen. And if it is banter with a mate I'd tell him to fuck off if I was his mate. Deluded, false hype-believing prick.

I would have taken Maddison off to protect against his injury.

On paper, I like the idea of a ref being able to go over and see an incident on the monitor again in case he missed a decision. The problem is that the implication from the VAR team is always 'we're sending you to take a look because you should give it'.
Feels like a lot of passing the buck to me.

It’s not just the creativity but he presses and likes get things moving quicker. Too many of the others slow it down or hold on to ball too long. I’d like to see them up the tempo and zip the ball around quicker. We’d destroy teams!
