If we get Vertonghen then loan him out, with the option to recall him again in january if need be.

Vertonghen and Kaboul first choice, with Dawson, King, Gallas will see us through...hopefully.
I'm not sure you can loan to another Premier League side for half a season, not 100% sure on the ruling.

If he's not going to be at least 3rd choice then he should get loaned back to Swansea as he'll learn fuck all rotting on our bench.

Caulker was tweeting during the January that he couldn't play for Swansea in the FA Cup due to the terms of his loan deal. It was reported at the time as well I think that we had the option to review and terminate the loan during January. Would probably mean having to pay them back some of the loan fee they paid for him I assume.

If Caulker is as good as the Swans say he is, it may be worth keeping him for the first half of the season and give him his chances in the cup games, if he impresses, move him up the pecking order.

Assuming we do, at some point, actually get round to signing Vertonghen. Considering 2 players for each position, I'd have Kaboul, Dawson, Vertonghen and Caulker as my possible starters. King and Gallas as back up...or as players who are good to have around the place, Harry like players who are good to have around the place.

If Caulker doesn't impress or looks like he may not get games, we can still loan him out to a Prem team?

I live in Swansea, watched 50% of their games this year (on telly or illegal streams  ) due to my flatmates following them and us seeming to play on Sunday every week. Caulker looks good, composed, strong all the business you would want from a CB, and he does have a bit of the Ledders about him :ledleylick:
Would like to see him loaned out with the option of being recalled, :ledley: :gallas: :kaboul: and :dawson: could keep a hospital busy between them and he could be ideal. Problem is if God ( :king: ) forbid Kaboul Daws Ledders and Gallas stay injury free a season on the bench would be a complete waste :harryhmm:
My overwhelming thought though is that he reminds me of Bassong at Newcastle :vdvcry:

I think we should keep him. Caulker + Kaboul + Vertonghen (touch wood) our first choice CBs..

I'd add Dawson to the mix while we're at it... King will no doubt stick around for another season before the Glue Factory comes calling next Summer... so thinking about it, Gallas might be the one to go (but only if we sign Vertonghen I imagine)

Dawson is finished imo - he was never the most naturally fit player and those injuries are going to keep occurring with his 'all or nothing, blood and guts' style of play

Think he has a few years in him yet, Parker plays the same kind of game and is ticking along ok.

I wouldn't suggest Dawson is finished but where once he was a reliable player fitness wise that is no longer the case. I really like Dawson but if his fitness becomes a constant concern then so to must he.

With regard Caulker, I would lean toward loaning to Swansea again, especially if Rodgers remains their manager. I don't see the benefit in him playing every sixth or seventh match, less maybe when he can gain another full season with a team who will improve him (probably more than our coaching set up would), just so long as it is made clear that he is an integral part of our future.

I'm not too keen to hear that Jonas Olsen is one of the players who may be coming in. I have seen enough of West Brom to know he is competent but I'm not convinced.

We can obviously loan him out in January to a prem team, as we did with Pienaar and Bassong this year.

Of course... (I was obviously sufffering brain fail last night)

It just makes more sense to me to give him his chance at Spurs first with the option of loaning him out if nothing comes of it. Rather than loaning him out, then finding out we need cover but can't recall him, and end up going for another vet for 6 months while Caulker establishes himself as a top Prem defender.

Caulker was making noises last season about wanting to stay at Swansea after his loan deal. He needs to play with Spurs next season, no more loan deals.

From what I saw of him at Swansea last season he's ready to challenge for a spot in our defence. With Ledley looking finished, Gallas and Dawson both injury prone, I can see him getting 20+ games in all competitions easily.

Definitely keep him.

CB pecking order for next year would probably be: Vertonghen, Kaboul, Gallas, Dawson, Caulker, King Ledley

We can safely assume that at any one time, two of the first four will be injured, probably 3 at some points of the season. Ledley was dire towards the end of this year (as much as that pains me to say). 100% need to keep Caulker, he could prove vital next year.

this may be controversial as i can't back it up myself, but i have been reliably informed that caulker isn't actually that good...

no trolling, correct me if i'm wrong by all means.

If it was a Swansea fan that told you that it's because they desparately want to hold on to him, I've read a few Swans saying how shit he is and that we should sell him...to them!

rofl, nah an avid avid spurs fan i know who has been interested to see how he plays for obvious reasons.

reason why i mention it is because he is honest as anything even about our players and usually spot on in terms of opinion. it did make me wonder as i know none of us like to cunt off our own, sometimes hard to get a well reasoned argument from fellow fans of the same team simply because they are associated with the club.

Re: Caulker

ah I see, my bad. I only come one here every few days and can never be bothered to sift through a lot of stuff that gets posted on here (laziness on my behalf) and this is the first I've heard about it
