We have the most frugal transfer policy in the premier league. If we were regularly finishing top 4, or even winning the odd trophy I would be proud. I would say it's working. The fact that we're doing neither of those things suggests it isn't. If we were to loosen the purse strings a little, maybe we'd have more to shout about.

I have a sneaking suspecion that if we were finishing in the top 4, you'd still be bitching that we should spend and you'd be proud if we were winning the league. As has been covered by others, our status financially doesn't give us a god given right to be in the top 4.

It's near impossible to actually know for sure how we'd feel as fans if we were in City's place, without being there. I can only say from where we are now, I feel that I'll be a whole lot more proud if we manage to get consistently in the CL (and hopefully build even further from there) with a manager signing young player to create a team ethos and with several academy products (hopefully still) starting (when/if we get there), than I would winning championships the way City have.

With regards to tossing money around, City is the exception that proves the rule. The amount they spent was obscene, no less so because they had to get a lot of signings in before FFP. Although United and Woolwich during their dominent periods spent a pretty penny here and there, it was always centered around a manager with a crystal clear philosophy. Even the chavs, with all the money they threw at it, only really achieved success once they got a manager in, who still spent a lot of money, because he could, but did so with specific types of players in mind to create a collective mentality in and around the team. Swansea and Soton are recent examples outside the top teams. To the contrary, the two teams pissing money - from a big sale each - at the best players available who on paper could help break the barrier to United, City, Woolwich and chavs failed miserably. Having the right people making the decisions as to who to sign is much more important than the amount of money.

£3,500,000 for Miralles? Can't really say no to that. Inconsistent, yes. But he's still a brilliant footballer who can create out of nothing. Plus, Belgians.

WindyCOYS WindyCOYS Could you tell us something about Nathan Oduwa? I've become really curious about him, is he one of our better prospects?

I know you asked Windy. However I personally think he is quality and would offer us something different.

Yes his loan did not work out but neither did many of Mason's or Kane's before him.

I honestly think people would enjoy watching Oduwa play.

ALL THE BELGIANS!!!!!!

Mason's did at Swindon tbf.... now should I support Lammy? What are the chances on him been chosen of Jowell?
Yes but his loans at Doncaster and Millwall didn't.

Of course you should support David, his chances are not bad,the campaign has certainly grown in the last couple of months. Can he beat Tessa sure he can, after all she only wants to do one term. However I would not put your mortgage on it.

Not keen on either McCarthy or Mirallas, but wouldn't say no to either at a certain price.

I think there are better defensive options than McCarthy and I think we could target better players than Mirallas, but both could do a job. Mirallas at 3.5M + Lennon is fine by me. Can play all three top positions, but I worry about his attitude a little, especially since he most likely won't be a starter. Hopefully, if he is surrounded by other countrymen in a more positive atmosphere he'll be fine.

Unless they are seen as good enough to start then we should pass. We have to stop stacking up players who are only going to be back ups to the back ups.

I almost agree. I'd say good enough to push the current starter (and better than the current reserve), like Davies last year, or young with enough potential to do so within a few years without being a notable downgrade from the current reserve, like Wimmer. As a minimum, obviously.

I'd say Mirallas doesn't make that cut.
