Transfers Summer 2016 Transfer Window Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Vardy to Woolwich seems a very weird signing.

He's a technically deficient footballer going to a side stacked with technically gifted players.

Makes no sense. Especially considering there's quite a few more sensible signings available.

Love it.

Vardy will be used as a wing forward perhaps meaning that Walcotts potential has finally been located and its not especially good ?

Maybe but Vardy has never looked good out wide either for England or a few game he played their for Leicester.

it just seems such a weird transfer, Vardy perfectly suits the long ball counter attacking style yet Woolwich play the opposite.

Maybe he is an upgraded Theo Walcott in Wengers eyes. But I was expecting Wenger to go for the likes of Janssen or Morata, more rounded type of strikers.

Maybe Wenger has learned that Woolwich need to be more direct. Ozil, Wilshere (if he stays fit obviously) can all play a ball over the top just as well as Mahrez. This has the potential to be a very good signing for them, if true.

Why is it weird?

The bloke has an abundance of pace, scores goals and provides a different option. He works tirelessly and can give them something they have not possessed. It is not about having the same type of players. Is Suarez the same as Neymar and Messi and would not some people have said he would not suit Barcelona's style? Honestly some people do not understand football and cannot see through their dislike of other teams. Invariably it is players and confidence that make teams and not just so called systems.

Unlike us of course who seem content on saying we want to bring in players but then posturing until the end of the transfer window and then making failed bids for players.

We should be doing our own transfer dealings. We need strikers infinitely more than any other club in the top 6 and yet what have we done so far? A big fat zero as ever.

Our squad performed better than it was last season and with a whole number of them involved in the Euros, if anything we need 5 or 6 players. This has not been an auspicious start to a window that is going to see a lot of significant transfer movement.

I literally explained in the post you quoted why it's weird.

Very encouraging news about Embolo.

Their director said he will be leaving this summer for a club in either Germany or England. He also said something along the lines, "He wants a manager who will give young players a chance".

Wonder who that could be.....

Then mate you don't get it. All he would be required to do is get on the end of the mass of chances they create, especially away from home. He can exploit gaps and cause defenders a real problem. Sorry, but this makes complete sense.

We need exactly the same quality in one of the two strikers we need to buy which is why Shane Long would be an excellent addition. Of course with Koeman seemingly going to Everton we won't be doing that as well.

I think Schmoodie is saying that Woollichs style is all about possession , which is the total opposite to Leicesters, they're about breaking quickly & Vardy thrived in it. I don't doubt that he's a talent but will he fit into Woollichs style?

We'll have to wait & see but I see no harm in people questioning the move should he go there. For me, walnut is similar , less of a talent sure, but he's been a disaster there.

Not a disaster but not fulfilled the promise.

I don't think Wenger would want Vardy to hold onto possession in a way that Kane or Giroud do, but to press and run behind and obviously to score the goals that Walcott has shown he cannot do on a regular basis.

My main point is that I completely see where this move would be coming from. Woolwich have enough Woolwich players. Vardy is different to that normal mould and grudgingly I applaud Wenger's willingness to go against his normal grain.

We need our manager to show a flexibility and understanding that you need all types of players and not just young, relatively unproven and obedient.

We need to do business as much if not more than any of last season's top 6. I just hope it is not business as usual for us.

Ask any Woolwich fan and they will tell you that Walcott is able to bury those chances on a regular basis actually. The problem with Walcott is Wenger plays him wide when many argue that he is better up front. This includes the player himself.

Chances are Woolwich will sign Vardy and play him out on the left. He's pacy and can shoot, this is where Wenger likes his pacy players who can shoot to play. He did it with Podolski and he did it with Welbeck as well.

No mate, I think the truth is that Walcott is not able to bury those chances. Wenger is not an idiot whatever we think. I very much doubt Wenger will play Vardy out wide. Not at 29 years of age and already used to playing a certain way.

He did it successfully with Henry but the Frenchman learned quickly and was very cool in front of goal. If Woolwich sign Vardy then Walcott will be forced to move on.
