I think there are at least a dozen. Real, Barca, Bayern, Man United, Man City, PSG, Chelsea, Woolwich, Liverpool, Inter, Juventus, Milan, Dortmund, and Atletico. IMO we're in that "third tier" of big clubs, like the English version of Schalke or Roma.
No way we're in the "third tier".

All of those made my list, except for Liverpool, Inter and Milan. They made the list of "bigger than us historically, but they've fallen off in recent years."

Why are you so keen for a few fans who have raised some reasonable concerns about squad depth, on a forum that is supposed to welcome debate, to be proved wrong? Obviously we all hope that we do well, and there are no problems, but why are you so against people even discussing things? There aren't any prizes for 'fan of the year' you know.
Because if they're proved wrong that means we've been successful.

Oh god, we're on the internet talking about proving people wrong.

Call Gibbsy!

With Liverpool, I guess it depends on how you look at it. In terms of league position, they've finished below us time and time again (6 out of the last 8 years iirc). But trophies are what make a club "big", and in that regard we're even (one League Cup in the last decade). As for the Italians....Inter won the treble in 2010. Milan won Serie A in 2012. How recent are we talking here?

But say we finish in 3rd again this year, maybe we could've won the damn thing if we brought in Isco or built a full bench. I just don't like that we finally have a great year and seem content, we have a golden opportunity to be really good for a few years here and if don't try and take it whats the point?

We still have a good squad and an ok shot at top 4, but we could do so much more.

It doesn't have to be starting 11, my comment was about people quoting the starting 11 as a reason we don't need to be buying. We need to improve our starting 11...or our bench....or both in my opinion to compete in what is likely a much improve premier league and the champions league. I'd have taken boufal, mane, isco certainly. Zaha and Sissoko can't say im too upset about missing on. But theres plenty of players out there who could be good bench options. And sure if we make top 4 next year i'll be happy to eat crow or do whatever shaming i can on this forum. Hell I was dead wrong last year, but in my opinion we are taking a huge risk that we are deep enough for all of these competitions and that all our players will maintain form from last year, which for the majority of them was the best season's of their career.

Really though....we were the youngest team and brought everyone back, I agree our first team is excellent, why not fill out the squad to protect against injuries and improve our bench options. If we don't push in this season, when we have plenty of money a good base to build from, when is a good time to push in?
Our bench for Stoke away last season: Vorm, Chadli, Mason, Son, Trippier, Wimmer, Davies

Our potential bench now: Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Wimmer, Wanyama, Son, Janssen

Our bench this year looks stronger to me.

Thats great, why not try and make it better? Are you confident in Trippier or Davies? What about when players inevitably get hurt? Do you want that lot playing in the champions league? Its stronger than last year sure, but why be so content?

Add N'Koudou as well but yes you are right except who creates as in the Eriksen role and who else scores?

I don't see a first eleven as opposed to competition for places.

We needed 2 more and then we would be really strong.
