I keep wondering about Real not being able to afford Eriksen....wouldn't Poch rather sell him cheap to a club he wishes to join rather than risk him sulking for a season then leaving for nothing ?? Just a thought...

If your assessment that he'll both sulk and leave, then yeah probably.

Thing is, he's said he'd like a new challenge. Not that he desperately wants out, dislikes the manager or whatever.

The unanswered questions which we can only speculate on and Poch knows better than anyone are whether Christian is the kind of player who'll excel or falter in a final year of contract? Is there a chance he'll sign on if Real/Barca doesn't happen? And related to the last one, would Poch want that, or has Eriksen burned that bridge?

It's a question we will definitely find out the answer to if he stays. Be nice if we had someone sitting in the wings a season early ready to take his place now in case he does 'throw a moody'. Obviously it would be in his best interests not to in order to attract would be clubs. Problem is finding someone willing to sit on the bench most of next season and wait for Eriksen's exit if he does start playing a blinder every match. As you quite rightly say it all hinges on the relationship he has with the manager.

Here’s the thing. We’ve apparently got this uber RCM, most people’s “player of the season” as Bazali Bazali keeps telling me, and we have this catastrophe of a RB. But guess what position we have prioritised above all others and smashed our transfer record upgrading this summer?

I’ll give you a clue, it wasn’t RB.

We desperately needed a midfielder, and have done for a while, regardless of how well Sissoko has played. We’ve also clearly been trying to flog Trippier to make space for another right back

Come on man, you were once my fav poster. Always previously thought you had smart informative views from SC. We all know we already attempted to upgrade right back with Aurier, not to mention Ndombele has been chased from before last season.

And how did that Aurier upgrade work out ?

I’m not sure it was a clear attempt to upgrade anyway, I think Poch likes to have rotation for fb’s because they are probably the most worked position and tactically integral to the system.

It was more a tongue in cheek a quip aimed more at certain posters who keep telling me that Sissoko is brilliant and Trippier is a catastrophe. You would think if that were remotely true our priorities would alter (at least slightly) because after his “wonderful” season Sissoko would have been deemed good enough to fill that midfield void we thought we needed so desperately, but our catastrophic RB situation was not solved by Aurier.

Wanyama is fucked, Dier isn’t trusted anymore. That leaves Winks and Sissoko as our only midfielders. Ndombele isn’t a replacement for anyone, he’s a necessity

Let's be clear Madrid choose not to want to afford either Eriksen or Pogba h whether in cash or Spurs taking part in players

Which I'd interpret as Madrid are not that committed to either player joining.

So any player joining doesn't have the whole hearted support of the coach which likely means they will not be s starter and be on the bench.

Think that Poch/Levy will put that firmly to him to de if he wants to sign a contract and stay ( possibly with a clause allowing him to talk for Madid in 12 months time) or if he goes to a club prepared to pay for him.

Levy/Poch job is to look after Spurs and if Madrid had paid £130m for Hazard then Spurs need a significant transfer fee for a player with equal goals and assists to Hazard over a ,5 year period - maybe that is £70m to £100m - and if Madrid offer £30m then Spurs should say " on your bike'.

Eriksen is an intelligent professional, player so will understand all of that

Dier was unlucky with injuries last season. If Dier stays I don't think there is any suggestion that he isn't trusted anymore - I'd suggest he's regarded as a useful versatile player who has played ok as RB CB and DM but has not nailed down any of those places as his own. He may go as the price of getting in a better player in one of those positions, but doubt if it's urgent for Poch that Dier goes.

At CM it's pretty obvious we needed more and good players hence Ndombele, and if Lo Celso arrives with Eriksen staying or another decent AM arriving I suspect Lo Celso will play some matches at both AM and CM.

No significant rumours of a RB arriving, although plenty of rumours of Trippier being off to Italy. Yet Aurier has yet to show the consistent form he showed in the YouTube videos before he arrived - no speed and 3 reckless sliding tackles to conceded 3 penalties in his first season etc - so I'd guess that Poch has decided it's not s priority to invest in a RB this season whether Trippier stays or goes. And that is simply Poch prioritising players coming into his weakest playing positions.
