Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I agree with the sentiments on these players (although hoping somehow Eriksen signs a new contract) but that doesn't mean I expect that we will sell all these players and replace them in this window, and I doubt any others do.
But I’m just wondering exactly what most of them aren’t good enough for?

What if we get to CL final? What if we win it?
Is the back up still shit?

Personally I think the back up have been by and large ridiculously reliable.
What’s let us down has been the “star players” crapness, the age old problem of wasting chances in the final third, managerial/tactical errors, mentality and injuries.

Changes need to be made.....but not because the squad is shit.

Sammy, you're absolutely right that it's all not happening. And yes, there are supporters who want each of those specific players gone. But nobody is saying they all should. Swap out 4 or 5 of the "not good enough" or "just squad players" with some quality and I don't think anyone serious would complain about the rest.

Sanchez as 3rd choice CB, Dier and Davies as guys who can cover multiple positions when injuries hit, and Winks as a rotation mid. Not a problem.

But do you think moving 4/5 of the obvious deadwood and replacing them with quality is out of the question? Every club has to have second options. For example, while not my first choice, Davies isn't a worry if he's not also lined up beside Fouth, and behind Big Vic and Skipp.

As long we're not replacing the deadwood with backups, what do you think is reasonable to expect? I know that a sincere question instead of a fight is unusual, but here we are.
Couldn’t agree more

Any talk of player exchanges should carry a ban. I can't even think if one we've been involved in - frazier Campbell maybe ? They don't even work on football manager.

Yeh I know but if we lose Eriksen then Isco as part of the deal would be about as like for like for Eriksen as you can get and we’d have a bit of cash left over.

Hopefully he’ll stay though.

They would be separate deals. As has been said player swaps/exchanges rarely happen.

Anyway interesting times at Real. Bale, Modric, Isco, Kroos up for sale this summer.

The squad needs reinvigoration. It's run its course.

We need those who have always got picked to be unsure of a starting place, we need a return to a football philosophy that all the players understand and I believe we need a return to a first 11.

We may just about have got away with it this season because United have completely flattered to deceive but even Woolwich for all their defensive frailty have shown they may get better next season and if they win the Europa it will give them a big boost.

Add to that the real threat of 3 or 4 other teams from the mid-table pack and I think anything other than a net 4 or 5 players in would be a worry.

We will soon start the long journey of transfer hope.

Not sure about Bale with his injuries and most likely wage demands, wouldn’t be against some of the others, they are quality.

I'd like De Beek (Ajax) more. He looks tougher, more mature and proved himself in Europe. They are about the same age. Tielemans is just too soft
And another thing...

Can't wait for all the excuses as to why we haven't signed anyone once the season ends and the summer begins

-Season just ended
-Levy and Poch on holiday
-Have to wait until internationals are out the way
-transfer fees too high
-players on holiday
-cant sign anyone officially until July 1st
-have to wait for bigger clubs to do their business before we can enter the market
-Brexit
-unwanted players must be sold first to make way for new signings
-players are cheaper at the end of the window
-we can save on wages by delaying signing anyone until the later stages of the summer

What fun

Agree.

We went through this last year when we would 'do our business early' before the World Cup. We all know what happened.

If we're going to plunder Fulham, Mitrovic and Sessegnon before Babel please.

I want to throw in a name for the right back position. Stefan Lainer.

26 year old right back at Salzburg (turns 27 in August so just starting to hit his peak years). Really impressed with him in the Europa. Just the right mix of offensive and defensive for a right back.

For me they aren't good enough for a team challenging or wanting to mount a serious challenge for the PL title. Liverpool stepped it up to City's level. We must as well.

In a knockout tournament, anything can happen really.

I think what has let us down is a mix of things, like you stated, but one of them is certainly "backup/squad" players not being good enough and some starters that aren't as well. Take Trips as an example.

Right now thats the case......but the same people said the same things about the same players when we were finishing above City and Liverpool just a couple seasons ago.

Then it was ONE marquee signing. Now we need half a squad.

The bar is always raised......do people seriously expect us to outspend City? We just had a season like this, with the back up playing most of it.
You think Chelsea would be 3rd in the same situation.....or Liverpool with Sturride and Origi instead of Salah

De Beek looks like he can play in a deeper role imo, I mentioned this the other day. Clever tackler, mobile, strong, has the ability to drive forward

Tielemans would be an option to replace Eriksen. I wouldn't play him deep

Having suffered the Dippers excellent play this season, I'm of the mind that fullbacks remain key to our play. With Walker and Rose on song, we used to bomb forward and press like monsters. Roberston gives Liverpool that down the left.

We need that again. It would take some of the pressure off our midfield to boot. Not sure who we can get to do that - perhaps that's what they're hoping Sessegnon will provide, with Attal on the right.
