Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Surely you don’t believe that there were no players who could have strengthened our squad summer 2018?
Grealish being the obvious target last summer.

We didn’t sign anyone due to money. The new stadium was an issue. We all know that. We have the tickets to Wembley to prove it.

Not a managerial decision that’s for sure. Maybe a chairman decision but not the coaching staff.

Did levy get it right or get lucky? Our league form would suggest lucky.

The fact we ended up playing Janssen and you are acting like he couldn’t be bettered in world football is mind boggling.
There would have been players out there but either not at the right price or not available. Grealish - the new owners changed their mind and decided not to sell.
Anyway can we leave the arguments about past transfer windows now, unless you want to discuss 2005/6, a particular favourite of mine.

I'm saying I hope we are not entertaining any thoughts of signing Llorente again.

We should have been able to secure a second out and out striker and it really is Pochettino's out and out blind spot. A real own goal.

My honest view is if he is available let's get him because it is nearly impossible for Kane to play all the time, whether that is staying fit or retaining form and that Son is not an out and out striker and that Parrott is just too young.

It baffles me to the point of distraction.

Our transfer dealings were a striker and defender of quality light of being very very good, on the face of it.

" Daniel, we got to 2000 pages, some 42,000 posts "
Thoughts ?

Name those available players ... both Poch and Steve have said we couldn't get our targets last summer ... as you've just seen we could and did get them this summer ... so why would they lie about last year?

As for money ... we had loads then and we still have loads now ... to say we have no money is the biggest red-herring in the book.

Transfer decisions are made by our transfer committee Levy, Poch, Hitchen and McDermott. They select the players to go after, even after that's agreed Poch still has the final say before any deal is concluded ... he rejected Ceballos this summer.

Lucky four years in a row? well maybe but maybe it's simply down to good management.

Don’t change the goalposts. I never mentioned 4 years did I?? Why say that??

I’m not going to get into an argument about this. Mainly as pointed out we could go back through every window and go on for ever.

You have your sources and I have mine. If you honestly think that the UEFA pro licence media training that top level managers do says “always tell the truth” you are extremely naive.

I’m happy as things are btw. I’m not digging out Levy Poch or whoever.

But last season was more luck than design in my opinion.
You can have yours.

Grealish being the obvious target last summer.

What we (sort of) know is we bid ~£23M for Grealish and VIlla rejected it, they wanted mid £40's
We know we then bid enough to speak to De Jong
We know this season we bought Ndombele for ~ £60M

This is where I don't think its the money that was the issue we just didn't rate him as highly as Villa, if we could get cheap then we were happy but once the price was raised we went for better targets. Could we have got Grealish last summer, probably but it would have likely been at the expense of De Jong (if he agreed to come) or Ndombele this year

How much did we save on these two in the end, due to negotiation?

This window is one of Daniel's finest hours, he's gotten some serious deals through at significantly reduced cost.

To go to the extremes, I've seen Spurs linked with the players we signed at these prices-

Lo Celso - £88m (buy out clause), Ndombele - £75m, Sessegnon - £50m, Clarke - £20m. £233m top end links.

Our actual outlay at present for all of those is £16m loan for Lo Celso, £53m Tanguy, £25m Sess and £8.5m for Clarke. £102.5m without the GLC perm option come into it.

Levy played the waiting game with Betis and threw every naughty trick at them negotiating with Fernandes etc to make them sweat. We don't like how he drags things out sometimes but when you save that much money instead of going for the rumoured off the bat quoted price who can really argue?

This window has seen us take it up a level. Who knows what the bald one will do next? You're right this really has been one of Levy's best windows, fair play to him after the last couple. Dybala and Atal next and not many teams will be getting the better of us.

You said about them getting a preseason with us.... It wasnt possible regardless of all the shite you subsequently wrote.
Just my opinion mate no need to get irritated because you have a different view.
I don't see why it was not possible, they tried to sign lo celso nearly 5 weeks ago.
If betis had agreed to the deal then he would of signed and been able to integrate as soon as his holiday after the cops was finished. He has been back training in betis for nearly 2 weeks. But it's fine mate, you seem to like having a go at me rather than just disagreeing..each to their own

We can still keep Llorente, he's a free agent and we have a one year deal already to go ... guess he will see what comes up in Europe before that window closes, but it's not unrealistic to see him here for another year. Won't get in the CL squad but might make the EPL ....

From last year but I don't think the rules have changed:

According the Premier League 2018/19 Handbook:
When must players be registered by?

Clubs are required to submit their 25-man squad list of registered players to the Premier League tomorrow - a day after the transfer window slams shut.

So Llorente must be re-signed pretty lively to be included in the EPL squad. Don't know when the ECL squad has to be registered but we would have to sell or not include one of our current non-HGs to accommodate FL.

It all started with this stupid bastard...during the World War 2 transfer window...

Not wishing to go off thread but history may have been unkind to Chamberlain as there wasn’t much else he could do as we were totally unprepared for war at the time so making this deal with Hitler bought us valuable time to try and rearm building more Spitfires etc even though he knew Hitler would eventually renege on the deal
Some experts said it delayed matters for up to 6 months

We didn't sign anyone because there was nobody available who would have improved what we had - see Liverpool summer 2019 for clarification ... of course when they do it the press (and some forum posters) think it's good business, when we did it Levy was a tight cunt .... go figure. When you fall for the media spin and don't actually listen to what our own club says ... well that's up to you, it is your opinion after all.

For months the informed sources have been telling us exactly how this window would go ... guess what exactly what they said is exactly what has happened, even the target players were well known weeks ago ... Dybala was just a bonus we couldn't quite close, but not for lack of trying.

Hindsight is of course easy, but with zero spent in 2018 leaving a strong established squad to get top four and the bonus of a CL final, with the stadium getting done, and now with our biggest window in a decade hopefully sending us to another level ... I'm pretty sure Levy got it right.
I disagree. Think it's ridiculous to suggest we couldn't have improved on our squad last summer. Also if it had been the same this summer you would have been happy with us going another window with no signings. & what if it was the same next summer.
Let's not go around in circles though. We have totally opposite views on this. You don't value my opinion. I don't value you yours as I think you would change it to match the club's stance.
Also your tone is very moody, "when you fall for the media spin" etc. You have that I'm a better fan than you so there, attitude.
Anyway, bring on villa!

So levy reduced bid of 70m euros to 62 euros last minute and juve pull plug. Typical
IF, and a big IF that that happened (Basing this off of Bale, Trippier and Davies' agent, who says that Levy never backs out off or changes deals once agreed) it must have been because Juve demanded that we pay out the full 40 mil for the image rights debacle.

But I think that this is Juve saving face mainly. But I base that off of Mr. Barnett's word since he has had a lot of dealings with Levy over the years and knows how he operates.
