Regarding Right Back.

People inclined to fear that we are hopelessly exposed at RB, given Aurier looks offski, might find solace in Wan-Bissaka (sp?).

He was behind Walker-Peters at youth international levels, then one season of Prem experience makes him a £50M player (abstract valuation of course).

We have sold a RB with higher youth pedigree than a player now 'worth' £50M, because we have more faith in Tanganga and Gedson to be better for our current system/managers needs, it appears.

If we can upgrade Aurier with a new signing, then we might just see the emergence of a top RB in one of the two understudies (Ashley Cole and hosts of others were wingers, early doors...).

Personally think it's quite exciting to watch it develop.
Happens now and again, Rose started in midfield and did well once he dropped back - until he turned into a cunt

Why don't you f*ck off you pompous arrogant would-be expert. You are without doubt the most unpleasant opinionated prick I've ever come across. Online or in life. And I've come across some beauties in my time.
You're only happy when you're putting someone down or proving to yourself that you are "king of the forum"
There must be something awfully wrong in your life because you behave like a surly 6th form prefect. No wonder so many people on here dislike you. That's something you can be extremely proud of.

You go, Doc! :freundgoal:

Yeah, but W-B didn't play RB at youth levels. That was a thing done at CP and first at practice and then only due to injury in the PL.

Fuck you fans, it's my money and the team is not gonna have it

Are there?

We have been linked with a handfull of RBs, STs & a couple of CBs.....

Like you've conceeded; the window is still open and thus I remain calm.

Depends what you (or he) means by "balanced"?

If Jose thinks they are up to the task of back-up and more importantly is happy to play them there then surely that indeed balances the squad (as opposed to having too many players in one position and not enough in others)....?
The bad signs are in the next quote: we are selling Aurier, but it doesn´t look like we are signing two RB´s. So, basically, we will be in the exact same position we were last season in terms of depth.

Of course, Jose will try to make the most of the group at his disposal, but I don´t think he wrote to the club something like "we don´t need depth in the FB position because we already have Gedson". Again, there are many signs to back what I´m saying - even though it´s just speculation. Aurier, the player we are now happy to sell, played 42 games last season - the second most in the squad -, including all the final matches after his brother´s death. Gedson and others were training to play in the RB position, as Jose said - yet, they didn´t play a single game. Next season´s schedule will be even worse. It´s not reasonable to expect any player to play 90% of the games.

Now, the CB position is a different situation. I´m not saying we need depth - I know we have 5 CB options. It would be nice to have more quality, but I know we won´t have an ideal scenario. For example, if we were to sign a quality CB and play him alongside Toby or Sanchez, "The Dier Experiment" would be our 4rd choice for the position. And by the way, I totally agree: if he plays in the first team, it´s Jose´s call. Personally, I think our best partnership is Toby-Sanchez - at least until we sign a better defender.

AWB didn't play RB at youth level? Where did he play? He is a pretty simple footballer that seems perfectly suited for his current position.

The Doherty rumors are the ones that I am most "excited" about when it comes to RB. He is PL tested, is dangerous going forward, and will confirm that we are going to implement the same system we did last year, which means a 3 at the back when in possession with two midfielders in front. So the progressive Jose we thought we might be getting is really just the same ole dude.

In regards to the two RBs needed, I think it is pretty clear we are going to get one in and then have Tanganga and Gedson deputize behind said RB. With the way we play, Gedson could be a fun experiment as he has the ball skills to be a good attacker and he has enough bite to learn the defensive side. This experiment reminds me of what happened with Cuadrado at Juventus. Turned him into a RWB. Same with Valencia under Jose.

WIKI = "On the 2017 pre-season tour, Wan-Bissaka began to feature with the Palace first team under new manager Frank de Boer, playing in a number of friendlies. The Dutchman played a formation with wing-backs, and this new role emphasised Wan-Bissaka's defensive capabilities, eventually leading to him moving from a winger to a full-back."

Do you think Gedson and/or Tanganga have the tools to shape into good prem RB? It was only 8months after the above confirmed 'test' of W-K at Wing Back that he became a first team full back, making his debut at our place 25th Feb 2018...

So, in 6-9months he developed enough to be a competent enough understudy to get a game and seize his chance, which just highlights how little time for adaption Tanganga and Gedson may need if they have the base attributes (I'd be concerned for Tangangas recovery with his bigger muscles, Gedson is leaner but not sure he has the dynamism I'd like, assuming they would have to be the marauding Aurier lite RWB).

Kind of apples and oranges of course, but you get the gist...

TAA is a frustrated CM of course, not saying Gedson has his tools, but it's not outrageous to believe he may well be able to translate his potential more readily further back on the pitch.

You can see Gedson is athletically gifted, fast, rangy, looks like he could run all day. He does have a very loose first touch, though. As for his crossing, the jury is out on that. At least he has the potential to go past the opposing fullback unlike Aurier who seemed terrified of taking someone on on the outside.

No

Its obviously not impossible but both are playing there now because of need not because their skill sets suit the position.

I think both can fill in as needed but Tanganga looks much better as a CB going forward and the reports were that Gedson was a box to box MF in Portugal so that doesn't seem like a skill set that transfers over easily to FB.

For Wan-Bissaka having an athletic winger move back to FB seems like a much more natural transition than a CB or Box to Box CM.

Maitland Niles to Wolves Matt Doherty to Spurs. Mourinho’s agent Currently running Wolves recruitment.
Doherty is 29 but he would be a big improvement for us. Usually a wing back which would work in Jose’s lop sided three at the back with the right back pushed right up. At least Doherty can cross and score goals.

Yep. Hopefully that’s what is going on here. Probably all dependant on us getting a decent fee for Aurier from Milan or anyone else. He’d be an upgrade.

How about just buying a proper right back like a normal club would do rather than shoehorning a midfielder in there.
