Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Pre Levy Spurs signed Matt Le Tissier - at the time one of the most skillful players in England.

Billy Nick put the signed contract into his safe, preparing for the transfer to be announced next day.

Unfortunately Le Tiss' wife decided at the last minute she didn't want to move to London.

So Billy Nick agreed to take the signed player contract out of the safe and tear it up.

Transfers are tricky things, they are only certain when the player turns up for training at his new club after being signed !

Pretty sure it was Terry Venables, either way, it was a couple of decades after Bill Nicholson.

A few contract extensions we need to hear about during he early part of the window - all three have one year left on their contracts which expire in June 2021 :

Eric Dier - looks to be one of our first choice CB's now
Japhet Tanganga - Emerged this season as an option at CB, RN and LB.
Oliver Skipp - Surprisingly underutilised DM with progressive passing.

Thiago at Bayern with one year to go. Probably too expensive.

No chance regardless.

Probably the best central midfielder in world football.

Upamecano and Hojbjerg are probably the best we are going to get in terms of players who's contracts expire in 2021 based on who we've been linked with.

Though there is a HUGE list of players whos contracts expire in a year.

Messi
Sane
Pogba
Alaba
Aguero
Donnarumma
Thiago
Depay
James Rodriguez
Luis Suarez
Rakitic
Diego Costa
Sergio Ramos
Giovani Reyna
Jude Bellingham
Modric

Out of those, I'd personally LOVE for us to pursue Bellingham and Reyna, but it looks increasingly likely Bellingham will end up at Dortmund and Reyna will probably sign a brand new deal.

Also important we sign Dier up too if he's going to be centre back from now on - he also only has a year left on his deal.

It would not surprise me if Levy has been holding off on a new deal for Eric because of his fitness issues.
Again I would not be surprised if Dier has the hump.
All total guess work but I hope I'm wrong and Eric signs a long term contract because he is invaluable to us.

Think it made no sense for either Dier or Spurs to agree a new contract earlier as he'd just come back from long term injury and looked pretty rough.

Post covid break and he's looking like a top CB. so Dier will be entitled to ask for a big wage rise and for Spurs to pay him ''the market rate' to avoid having to buy a new CB and pay that 'market rate;.

Clarke.

Development wise he seems to have gone backwards since his seizure.

Not much fundraising joy to be had there..... If he's gone backwards to the point that he'd be a punt for a mid-table champ team at best then i can only see us getting a fraction of what we paid in the current climate..... Been saying this all along; the kind of clubs ordinarily likely to buy our cast-offs will all be skint or being ultra cautious.

That makes sense and I hope you are right.
