Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Interesting one going into this summer with all things considered. A lack of revenue, a strong possibility that we miss out on Europe altogether, not just the Champions League, players being linked at the c£20m-£25m mark across a lot of positions and a fair few fighting for their Spurs careers it seems.

I can see this summer being one where we artfully try to plug holes. We constantly seem to get linked with players entering the final year or two of their contracts (Vazquez, Castagne, Hojbjerg etc) so when thinking about a realistic and fair budget before anything made on player sales I can honestly see the club giving Jose £50m and telling him he needs to shift a few to bring that number up to what he would need to buy any remaining players to plug gaps.

Gabriel Meghales is a left footed CB so I absolutely see truth in that one to cover Ben and offer Vertonghen options.

Kim is one that would make sense as well with the Sonny/ South Korea link and an ability to hopefully add depth/ competition long term.

Castagne a RB so it was inevitable after Meunier went to Dortmund that we would start to see names in this position pointed in our direction.

Vazquez I don’t see the point in in all fairness, unless Mourinho is looking to shift Lamela out of the door.

Hojbjerg the only one I really know much about and just makes sense being a PL captain, one year left on his deal, pedigree at international level and champions league level etc so I honestly see this one getting done sooner rather than later.

All of these lads are apparently around the Ā£20m -Ā£25m mark but I wouldn’t be able to tell you much about them, it does intrigue me a lot to see our transfer strategy play out and how we implement certain changes.

Ā£50m+ any money made on player sales sound reasonable fair to you lot?
I wonder what that list of players would fetch collectively. I’m gonna say maybe 50-55mill?

:sonhmm:

IMO we will try to use some of those more creatively as part exchanges, where we know the selling club is short of players eg Southampton short of RB's, QPR have just released experienced midfielder and CB/captain.

For example :

KWP + say £10m cash for Hojbjerg (DM)
Amos + Carter Vickers (both experienced Championship players ) + say £5m cash for Eze (AM)
Foyth (Argentinian international RB and CB) + say £10m cash for Castagne or Aarons (RB)

Then sold for cash :

Lamela £15m - £20m ?
Rose £5m- £10m ?
Aurier £20m ?
Clarke ?

Sissoko is currently used as a makeshift DM/RM not really a great job as DM as he's also trying to cover for Aurier. IMO with Aurier being replaced and Hojbjerg arriving imo Sissoko will not be required and will also leave for say £20m.

Cash available can certainly fund a CB whether Meghales or Kim.......and may even have some cash over for another deal ?!

Conclusion

With that we get a CB, RB, DM and AM solving a lot of problems.

Would have a number of youngsters available to add cover too (although some may be sent on loan to get experience) :

Japhet Tanganga - CB, RB, LB
Oliver Skipp - DM
Dennis Cirkin - LB
Harvey White - DM and LB
Jamie Bowden - DM and RB
Troy Parrott - striker

Worth also saying that the forward position will be a lot stronger with Son, Bergwijn, Dele, Moura, Sessegnon, Eze as AM's, if we need to use Son or Bergwijn to play striker to rotate Kane, we have decent AM's to come in to cover them.

If all what your describing came to fruition, I'd like to think we could afford to think 'bigger' than Hojberg as on the above basis there'd be money unspent before considering any initial trf kitty.

And am I correct that the Emirates game you saw was the only game he has played (except last couple of games maybe) ie he's only played a couple of professional games in his life.
2 PL appearances. Debut at the Emirates. Second came against Leicester during the week.
Would you gamble multi million on a player who you have only seen in a couple of games (no footage in youth games really relevant if its a multi million fee ?) Toughie ?
I need to see more. Initial impression is very positive.
But Chelsea were not prepared to bet on his progress.......ie take the risk. Should we/could we ?
Pathway blocked over there, to be fair about it. The thing that really surprises me is how little Brighton paid for him.
In 12 months time it may or may not be a different case, depending on how he does at Brighton.
Mmm-hmmm. Could be too late for us by then, of course.
So if you are Mourhino do you ask DL to pay say £30m for him and guarantee to play him for say for say the first 10 matches of next season (more professional games than he's ever [played in ).
Can't see him commanding a fee like that. But because of his size, I doubt Mourinho would give him a second look.

Think its worth reviewing the current players we are likely to keep, which IMO are :

GK's - Lloris, Gazzaniga, (Austin),
Defenders - Dier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga, Davies (Cirkin),
CM's - Winks, Lo Celso, Skipp plus cannot see Ndombele missing (and Gedson on loan) (White)
AM's - Dele, Son, Bergwijn, Sessegnon, (Moura or Lamela)
Striker - Kane (Parrott

That's 17 players excluding loanee Gedson and youngsters (in brackets above) Austin, Cirkin, White and Parrott as the core of next seasons squad.

IMO most Likely to leave ? - Aurier, Sissoko, (Lamela or Moura), Walker-Peters, Rose, Foyth (6 players)

Out of Contract - Vorm, Vertonghen (2 players)

So 8 players likely to leave, with say 4 or 5 in plus Gedson an a few youngsters to add to the 17 players being kept gives us a squad totalling 22 or 23 players plus youngsters. So sizewise its fine.

And of the 8 leavers, 4 (KWP, Rose, Foyth and Vorm) haven't played much this season so replacing them with youngsters is not a reduction in quality.

Bit of trivia.
If Rose leaves that is the last of the Jol signings.
If Verts and Lamela leave that just leaves Lloris as an AVB signing.
Every other signing is Poch except for JM signings Gedson and Bergwijn.

Its too early to call but when relegation is certain from PL, think we will see ourselves linked to a few players from those clubs - likely to be 3 from Watford, Wham, Bournemouth, Villa and Norwich (Brighton 6 points clear of the drop now so probably safe ?).

A few potentially interesting players in all of them. But no point in speculating atm until things are more certain, although Norwich is almost certainly down.......and then a question as to how many years left on contract and prices etc. I'm pretty sure rumours will link us when the club's fates become apparent.

todd1882 todd1882 What do you think of Yves Bissouma, you fastidious fuck?

I said he was Dembeles replacement back in 2018 when he was performing brilliantly for Lille.

Surprised Brighton managed to get him and not surprised that he's performing well for them - he's destined for better things.

If we want to go down the road of buying a destroyer with limited ball-playing ability, I think we could do worse. He's got a serious engine.
