It's a bit like the Hojbjerg thing. I know he’d be an upgrade on Sissoko, but it’s like upgrading a really shit player with one that’s just a bit shit.

I’m not sure that Castagne is actually much better offensively than Aurier at all, he looks like he might be a marginal defensive upgrade. I’d really like us to find a RB who’s better all round package. Like I said, I need to watch Castagne a bit more though.

And folks think it's a good move FFS. He is a hell of a footballer, technically, but the game passes him at Betis. I cannot imagine why Leicester, a team that clearly does their scouting, went for this slug. It must be Rodger's Barca fantasies. But on the plus side he does have brains so that should make up for the rest of it.

Modern DMs aren't just good at winning the ball back in midfield, they're also able to play a bit after they've done that. We were so good with Wanyama and Sandro in there because they could turn defence into attack so quickly. That's what we need

To be honest, I'd rather Jose just works with the Sissokos and Auriers of the team and make them better rather than spend money taking punts on players who may or may not turn out to be better. Hojbjerg might turn out to be top quality in the future but right now he isn't. Can we really afford another N'Jie, Nkoudou, Holtby, Yedlin, Paulinho, Janssen etc. (not saying they were all bad, but definitely didn't live up to expectations).

We should be buying players who will come in and improve the team we have. We have squad depth in 'good' players. We should be buying 'great' or 'fantastic' players to come in and improve our first team.

In an ideal world we'd go out and buy Thomas Partey for £45m (I'm sick to my fucking stomach that Woolwich are looking like signing him) as a direct, clear improvement on Sissoko. I feel that a rock solid CDM combined with a pre-season of Jose drilling the fuck out of our defence will be enough to put us comfortably back up in the Top 4. I can't see how we can ignore CDM this window - it's such an important role and we're relying on an ageing Sissoko to fill it.

If money is as tight as some fear, I'd much rather we went 'big' at DM (eg Partey) and got creative in recruiting other areas rather than get a bunch of £15-20m 'projects'.

He & Dembele were an excellent blend... Didn't last long thanks to injury, but that's a diff story.

Not sad at all. Both clubs make an FFP profit on the swap, which for Barca is important.

By that logic, we should never make a signing again and just hope the players we have become better.
