Wages are facts. So definitely more credible then some guy in a dark room guessing what Kane is worth.

Wage bill is the list credible data point here

Don't see how.....

Players are vastly overpaid in some instances.... In others they're paid far less than inferior players.

Aubamyang 350kpw.
or
Kane 200kpw.

Willian (formerly) 250kpw.
Ozil (formerly) 350kpw
Luiz (formely) 250kpw
Calumn Chambers £130kpw

????

Still its something real instead of someones guesses. Also Willian, Ozil and Luiz were very good players once which is why theyd get paid lots. About 20 odd decent trophies between them.

Its still a fact based indicator instead of guesswork.

I take your point about real numbers.... But height and weight are real numbers too and we wouldn't seek to measure a sqauds quality on those arbitrary metrics either.

Value isn't an exact science, but at least it seeks to evaluate on a CURRENT and directly significant basis.

True, they rank and publish wages this is different choose which one you like and be aware of strengths and weaknesses.
Also this transfermarkt thing always rates a good young player higher than a very good older one. Nothing to do with the actual value they provide on the field at any point. More about how many years they have left, the lenght of their contract etc.

Wages arent arbitrary though. You will mostly find good players on good wages and shit ones on shit wages.
