Interesting. With Gil following Ndombele on loan, that's 2 spots that we need to bring players in for, as Conte himself said that we need to replace any player that goes this window.
I'm not saying we're done (how TF would i know?) but do we "need" to bring in replacements for them? Haven't we already?

What I mean is, we weren't expecting to bring in more, until we shipped a few off. So, we may yet bring in another player or 2, but i'm not sure they're direct replacements for Ndombele/Gil.

Could be of course.

He’s good for sure, but let’s be honest, his level was raised immeasurably by the inexplicable continuous brilliance of Modric and Kroos.I’m not sure he’s going to improve United to the level that you would expect a 60 million midfield signing to.
Casemiro is an old fashioned clogger. Excellent at breaking up the play, winning the ball and passing it off to the more gifted midfielders. But he’s not going to run games or dominate the midfield in the way de Jong would have for them.
You don’t appreciate these qualities then… he’s manifestly superior to mctominay and Fred

If you could upgrade each position the equivalent delta across the 11 positions you’d be happy as Larry!!

Throughout Euros he looked a bit above average, to be fair Philips impressed me way more.

As for the last point, Wolves just sold Morgan Gibbs-White for 45M. Does that make him a great midfielder? Especially compared to players like Tonali or Locatelli that moved for way less? English clubs are stupid when it comes to purchasing players. Makes our Bissouma signing even better when you take it into prespective.
To be fair, the MGW price isn't currently £45M, it's £25M. It will likely rise, but if the rumours are correct, one of the add-on's is for European Football.

As for MGW, I was hoping we'd take a punt on him a couple of seasons ago when he had his break out season with Wolves, talent to burn in the kid. If he realises his full potential, even £45M will look a snip.

I do. I just don’t think they’re qualities United are missing so much that they think it would be worth spending 60 million and 350k a week on them.

It might be too much but a player like Casemiro is exactly what they're missing. A competent player at the base of midfield who shields that leaky defence & provides a platform for the likes of Eriksen or Bruno to do their thing.

Fred & McTominay can't do that at all. The former is a headless chicken & the latter is .. well I don't really know. A shit footballer?

They are missing far more than just that, though.

Well in Uniteds case you sometimes have to park the money aspect as the mismanagement of finance is borderline criminal

So I’ll do this again ….. mctominae and Fred

You don’t think United are missing those qualities you’re so indifferent to?

Not really. Marcelo has been useless for a few years now and he left on a free transfer. CR did quite well at Juventus.
True, CR did "quite well" but he was never the same as when he was at Real M.
Marcelo, yes, has been in decline but they hoped he may find back to his old self and he also refused to be sold - like Bale (but the similarities end there) - until he understood that he had to leave.

Yeah of course, but you start somewhere. Looks like they want Antony too. It wasn't all going to get fixed in one summer but this particular signing seems a pretty smart one to me. People talk about fees/wages but they're United, money isn't the problem for them at all.
They don’t invest owner money, so overspending is a problem… they just have a larger budget than almost everyone. They still need to be wise when they invest, they just can afford more mistakes than most.

The club earns staggering amounts & they're in a horrible place on the field so big investments make perfect sense, it's just (obviously) about getting them right .. which they haven't in the past. Seems they're putting a lot of hope & faith in to Ten Haag and time will tell if it's the right choice.

I'm just basing this on what Conte himself said, that if any more players leave then we would need to replace them. It might just open the door for Malinovskyi, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
