if we are going for someone from Leicester I’d much rather Maddison than Tielemans even though Maddison can be a bit of a dick sometimes. I just don’t see how Tielemans works in a Conte system, his defensive work rate for a CM wouldn’t be enough.

Agree with this. In the current 11 its the wing backs, Davies and i'd add Hojbjerg that are easiest to upgrade. Then some of the squad, Sanchez, Winks, Moura. Some have done ok but that group are probably less technically gifted than other members of the squad.
I would put replacing Sanchez and Winks ahead of Davies and Hojbjerg all day long.

The latter two may not be superstars, but they're still way, way, way ahead of Sanchez and Winks in my book.

Even with the team getting towards firing on all cylinders, good wins by big margins etc, still fairly obvious where the upgrades are needed.

People like Emerson, Doherty/Reguilon on the left, and I'd lump in Davies as well, might be doing alright in recent weeks and Conte is getting something out of them in terms of productivity and half decent performances. But if you just watch the 90 minutes and general passages of play their abilities on the ball and all-round technique and what they bring to the table then they are the most limited. That doesn't mean everything they do is useless, that they don't have positive moments, that they haven't contributed.... but still, these are the areas we can and should look to be improving.
PEH didn’t play well yesterday - he needs to be fourth choice behind Skipp, Benta and a new signjng

I’d keep Davies

Im not a huge fan but he can cover the left CB / LB in a 4 and LWB

I’d flog Reggie over Sess …. I think Reggie is the easier sale carrying a larger fee … plus Sess is HG and hope remains that there is a player in there somewhere

Sell Emerson … I think teams abroad will be interested. Might have to take a bit of a haircut on what we paid but we get more for him that doc… plus doc is proving the more suitable

Sell Dav. He’s a decent back up but I think he’s had a good run here and we could prob get reasonable money before his contract starts to run down

Sell Rodon. We don’t play him. Best for club and himself

That gives us a reasonable chunk of dough to go out and get quality in at RWB / LWB / LCB

I would hope we try to sell winks and go out and get quality in the middle of the park to join skipp / bent / PEH

We need to stay away from players like Maddison, players like him are far too expensive because they are English and playing for PL clubs. If we are going to sign someone like him we should be signing them before they explode, not after. We should be looking at the best young players in the Championship (like Maddison, Bowen, Grealish etc were) and signing them for £20m not waiting until they take the PL by storm and then paying £60m for them.

We could get Lewis-Potter from Hull, Djed Spence from Boro and Madueke from PSV altogether for the same price we'd have to pay for Maddison/Lamptey etc.

Brennan Johnson from Forest instead of that twat Maddison

That's more to do with the nature of the position; they're both flakey....

He's not nearly as revered as he was a couple of years ago.... With good reason.

Dunno about you, I want guys that would bleed for the shirt.

He was absolutely mint last season. This is his first period in English football where he hasn't looked absolute quality pretty much every week.

Fantastic player and walks into our team, as he does most.

Doesn't make sense.

Romero is the main starter. Sanchez is the backup. Not terrible as far as backups go.

Hojbjerg is the winks upgrade as far as I'm concerned. We don't need a Winks upgrade, we need a Hojbjerg upgrade. Same applies to Davies.

I think in terms of priority, two quality WBs and a super elite CM are our biggest needs.

Playing in a 2 man midfield in a Conte side requires a lot from the CMs. PEH is just not up to the task when playing against the best teams in the league, and even Bentancur is only decent, not elite.

Then of course the WBs must be excellent at creating chances and scoring because we are sacrificing the midfield for their sake, and if they fail to deliver it completely fucks the team.

Davies may not be great, but he's still less of a priority than the others in my view.

What doesn't make sense?

Sanchez is a complete liability. Our starting centerback trio right now is Davies-Dier-Romero, and Davies is the weakest link in that chain. Sanchez doesn't have a place anywhere near our starting lineup, so sell him and replace him with a left-sided centerback that can possibly displace Davies and improve our depth. Kill two birds with one stone. Holding on to Sanchez makes absolutely zero sense given his performances and lack of growth.

Same thing with Winks. He's a passenger in midfield. He's a liability even as injury cover. Replace him with someone who can push Hojbjerg, and again you're improving our depth and possibly killing two birds with one stone.

If this doesn't make sense to you then you're a simpleton.

Upgrading Winks really means upgrading PEH to me. In my mind if we sell Winks, and by a new CM who can't relegate PEH to the bench that's a failed transfer, that's what I mean by we need not upgrade PEH not Winks.

With Sanchez I guess it makes more sense, as his replacement doesn't have to be better than Romero.

I’ve reversed course on Davies. He’s a crucial member of the squad and we should absolutely not sell. Been very solid at LCB though I agree could be upgraded. I actually think he might be a better LWB than LB as he has less one v one defensive work and his technical ability would be useful in possession. Those types of versatile players who won’t cause a stink on the bench are very important.

Would like to move on from Winks and upgrade him. I’d love Eriksen. He’s still absolute class and his overall game has always been underrated. He covers a lot of ground, scores goals, etc. Might be a little light in a 2 man MF but could do the job depending on the match up. Probably no worse defensively than Winks. I think we could use another CM in addition to him too tho.
