To the contrary, I'd say it's adjusted the market in the sense that everyone and their dog thinks City grossly overpaid, and it has confirmed, this shouldn't be the going rate. Also, the 100m wasn't his market value but instead his release clause.

One of 3ish clubs in world football that has no limits on their budget, outside of pretending to follow FFP, saying fuck it, we'll just pay the release clause, doesn't set or even adjust the market. Unless one of those 3 clubs come in for the player we're talking about, AND absolutely, categorically want this player no matter what, as seemed the case with Pep and Grealish.

Our problem (until the recent fuckups) wasn't so much the pull but the fucking disaster signings we brought that now have us in a desperate situation.

Got highly rated players in Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sess, regui, and we had enough pull to get Skriniar (if levy was willing to pay up the stingy cunt). Now we are in a tougher position.

I think clubs in Europe outside the premier league need to sell, where as we will get fees for those players and we are relatively sound financially.

The only way we have a properly successful window is if someone else comes along with a boat load of cash and a cunning plan to circumvent FFP. Because you know Spurs would get caught out by that before City, Chelsea, Newcastle, PSG, both Spanish teams etc.

Apparently we have a 400m (you read that right) buffer as far as FFP is concerned, by far the biggest in the PL.

We could "do a leeds" and still not come up against FFP.

Travelled that region quite a bit, Western Croatia and parts all over are very close to Italy, it’s a stunning melting pot of Mediterranea, Slavic et al. When I first arrived in Zagreb, was stunned at the variety of beauty…

Hasn't there been recognition from within the club that it was a mistake. They know they should have prioritised Kane and over paid on Grealish.

The fact that you're talking in terms of "warchests" makes your response look more than a little bit silly.

Measuring the success of a trf window by how much we spend is foolish..... Much like your implying that we'll likely not spend anything.

How much will/can we spend?

Think we can get €50-100m on sales if Lo Celso ends strong et al.

Is a £100m anything like possible, on top of the previous loans going perm?

Will we need just one big buy of £50m on a similar loan to perm? Then a free or two?

Without naming rights, think it’s gonna be tense and frustrating, especially if Villareal and Celtic don’t deal early…

When PSG triggered the 200m clause for Neymar, didn't that shift the cost brackets up a bit.

SMS is a great player in Serie A but at 27 I wonder how much more intensely physical football he wants to play? I don't really hear him bellowing to play at higher levels or in higher level competitions. Maybe he just has an agent that isn't a primadonna attention seeker, but it does seem a bit worrying he seems happy being at upper midtable Lazio. If we could get him for 50-55m I could see it being a good deal, but to break the bank for him at 75-80m just seems very risky. 75-80m for us should be a young generational talent with 8-10 years of prem career ahead of them. SMS doesn't really fit this mold. I say leave him to one of the megaclubs.
