In Liverpool's position they'd have done well to lock in some 'buy & loan-back' deal by now; be it last summer or this.

Who knows what could change by the time BVB 'officially' put him on the market.

They seem pretty confident. Liverpool with Klopp are a huge pull now, they seem to bide their time in the market rather than rush for a lesser option & it nearly always pays off. I don't think Dortmund would've been interested in any kind of buy & loan back deal with a world cup coming up and the fact he's pushing on every single season.

Probably wouldn't want to announce a sale when Haaland had already left too.

By "they" you can only mean there fans and a few ITK chancers.

Reading between the lines, that suggests they'd welcome a bidding war.

This much makes sense...... They seems to be quite concious of avoiding the selling club tag (even if in truth they are a stepping-stone deluxe).

is it likely we've been working on the Destiny signing for quite sometime, and a loan back for the season was the deciding factor which we knew early on? Is this perhaps why we signed Langlet on a season long loan, to give us cover until our preferred target joins?
Different positions.. assume Udogie would be succession planning for Perisic, Lenglet is placeholder for Bastoni/Gvardiol/LCB who emerges as target this coming season.

BUT, just looking at his highlights, Udogie is a big lad. Possible profiles similar to Reece James as an attacking option for that LCB slot.

I don't buy into this bullshit peddled about players being available.
Its lazy and it's nonsense.
The transfer market has always been about the powerful clubs identifying a player and using their financial muscle to unsettle and land their target. Available or Not
They don't wait for a player to be made available or put on the market
And sometimes the players or the clubs say no. Of course we could always chuck £100+ million at them and offer the players a 6-year contract at £300+K/wk. I mean, we're a powerful club after all and, if they don't work out, I'm sure there will be oodles of clubs tripping over themselves to sign them.

I think we have to bring more in if Conte wants to get closer to what he wants to achieve.
Although the squad strength may have improved overall the starting 11 isn't that much better than last year IMO so definitely a couple of more are needed.
The league will be strong this season even clubs like west ham and Newcastle etc are buying well so we can't afford to allow them to get to close.
We have improved 2 key positions in the team that had one of the strongest finishes last season. And added quality depth. We're not going to overhaul everything in one transfer window and Conte has stated that it's a project. So we still need another TW or two to get there.

Zaniolo plus a CB still seems likely.

Outgoings becoming a bit of a concern.

Lo celso will prob get his move, Tanganga too you'd hope

but seems like nothing for Ndombele, Reguilon and Winks

I don't disagree with what we have added but we are still a couple short for the season ahead.
like I have said already the teams outside the top six are putting together decent teams it won't take much for one to break in we need to make sure we stay top four at least.

Unfortunately other clubs know how desperate we are to get rid of certain players and will understandably hold us to ransom.

Sadly there appears to be little interest so any bidding wars are unlikely at the point in time.

We might be lucky at the tail end of the window when clubs might be scrabbling around for last minute signings.

Got to sit tight and prepare to take huge losses.

To be fair, mate, buying players who have potential to be elite is probably what's stopped us getting over the final hurdle in the past decade or so.
The teams that mean business more often than not get the finished article.
I would argue that we lacked the decisive cutting edge when evaluating said players and then didn't move them on when there was enough evidence to suggest they were not good enough (the ol' "they'll come good just give them 7 years" crap). There was never enough competition or squad churn to properly improve and, yes, that could be finished articles but need not be.

Zaniolo does not make sense to me.
Aside from his significant injury history, he's only made 8 assists in his whole career (100 appearances). I don't see how that will add the creative element we lack.

Maddison got as 8 assists in the PL last season itself.
