United are still a bigger draw than us, we saw that with Mbeumo. Players are basically brands themselves now, and signing for Man United is still massive in terms of what it can do for your following, brand deals etc.

Atletico, I think depends where you’re signing the player from, if they’re Latin players, I reckon they choose them over us.

Ultimately it will mostly come down to what we pay. If we’re willing to go into that bracket between 200-300k per week, you’ll start seeing big, high profile players come to us, that are almost guaranteed to lift us into top 4 contention.

If we still want to mostly stick around in that 100k range, with the odd 150k+ player, we’ll continue to get a mix of mid-level players, hopeful punts and dross.

Mbeumo is a United fan and also probably didn’t fancy working with Frank again

Still think we were 50/50 chances on any player with United this summer

Agree on Atleti for Spanish speakers but in general, they aren’t a bigger draw by rights

Wages you are 100% on point

United picked off Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko in a summer with no European football and a truly shit squad.

Money talks in the summer. We have the money to sign almost anyone if the owners really want to.

If City, Liverpool or Woolwich come in then probably the player goes there but we’re still a bigger draw than Villa, Newcastle and that level of club. We just took Gallagher when Villa wanted him and they are in a title race.
They are Manchester United.

I was more talking about the Morgan Rogers talk.

We aren't prying Villa's best player off them.

Mbueno was a real alarm bell for Frank, not for choosing Utd, but whilst we were openly courting he didn’t come out and make comment praising Frank for his development.

Completely agree about Morgan Rogers, only chance would be if we won the CL and Villa collapse and don’t make it, fairytale talk.

I’m sorry, but we’re not 50/50 with Man United for players, that’s Lilywhite tinted specs stuff.

If we’re consistently in the top 4 and they’re languishing in mid table, then maybe it swings a little bit back in our favour. But as a club and as a brand, they’re still top 3-5 in the world, and they can beat us on wages every time.

As shite as it is to be saying this. Should we just go and get Sterling in till the end of the season? I feel dirty even posing the question, but we’re running out of bodies and we’re in the most desperate situation the club’s been in in generations. Sterling at least was a quality player once upon a time, do we just swallow our pride in the hope that he can help us out this hole?
